BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – A design of rural electric motorcycle developed by teacher and student of Universitas Pasundan successfully won the 3rd place at the Sustainable Electric Vehicle (EV) Design Competition.
Sustainable EV Design Competition is a series of 2022 Jakarta E-Prix, a Formula E race competition event held in Jakarta. This national-level competition tries to introduce the solution of clean energy through electric vehicle to fight against climate change.
Unpas team consists of five members, including Head of Centre for Business Innovation and Incubator (Pusat Inovasi and Inkubator Bisnis, PIIB) Ir. Farid Rizayana, M.T., as the tutor.
Fulfill Community’s need in 3T areas.
Farid explained that electric motorcycle is designed to fulfil the need transportation in 3T areas, and rural areas as well. This environmental-friendly vehicle can also reduce the need of fuel, especially in 3T areas with minimal fuel availability.
“We are trying to take advantage of the potential of renewable energy sources and promote electric vehicles,” he said on Monday, 6 June 2022.
The rural electric motorcycle developed by the Unpas Team has front and rear wheels so that it can reach the 3T area. It can be modified and added to the body with various body style designs, such as retro, sport bike, trail, and racer.
“It aims to improve the activity of designing and develop the industry of micro automotive body of a car (garage workshop) in various areas,” he explained.
Multi-function Design
Interestingly, this motorcycle can carry enough battery packs to be used in other equipment. The battery pack can be charged using a charger or using a charging station that uses solar panels to reduce dependence on fuel.
The segmentation of electric motorcycles includes rural communities, millennial farmers, and local governments.
“We target for rural community in the age span of productive ones who need to be mobile on non-asphalt road access, millennial farmers, as well as local governments who want to support farmers with innovative tools and advance their regions through local products,” he said.
The participation of Unpas Team in the Sustainable EV Design Competition is a valuable opportunity to test the team’s abilities and knowledge in the aspects of electric vehicle technology, as well as a good business development system.
They will continue to be committed to be evaluating and improving the development of electric motorcycles in the next generation. (Reta)*
