BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – Culture is a priceless heritage. It is also an identity which marks the characteristics of a nation, as well as a differentiator from other nations.
As a form of respecting the culture, Student Community of Citizenship and Law Education (Himpunan Mahasiswa Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan dan Hukum, Hima PKnH), Faculty of Teaching and Education, Universitas Pasundan held an international webinar entitled ‘Culture as a Strength of Unity’, on Tuesday, 24 March 2022.
In accordance with the theme, this webinar invited speakers from various cultural and national backgrounds, namely Lq Hendrawan/Abah Uci (Indonesia), Fitri Baderulnizam (Malaysia), Fanaja Ratsara (Africa) and Catillon Eugenie (France).
According to Abah Uci, maintaining culture is a necessity for the establishment of national unity. Culture is also the key to build harmony.
“Diversity exists in the unity of nation, togetherness and kinship. Cultural diversity will build tolerance, become tourism attraction, even also become world heritage,” he said.
Staff of Education Division Hima PKnH, Fadil Desri Yadi said that there are a lot of cultural practitioners, activists and colleagues of Indonesian Students Association (Persatuan Pelajar Indonesia, PPI) joined in the webinar.
He considered that global citizens need to be introduced to various cultures around the world. This provides benefits for adding insight and helping to change the mindset about cultural differences.
“We provide room for participants to discuss and exchange the knowledge/findings related to the culture in each country to build tolerance,” he stated.
Fadil also emphasized that culture should always be maintained since it is a sector which support advancement in tourism.
“We hope we could build harmony in order not to cause divisions between cultures. Let us be mature in responding to differences, especially culture,” he concluded. (Reta)*
