BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – Basically, an individual has his/her own leadership and potential spirit for him/herself or the others. However, as a social human-being, a leader needs to watch for their quality of leadership which is oriented to the common interest and not dominant.
It was based on this thought that Kamiliya Nabilah, a class-of-2019 student of Communication Studies, Faculty of Social and Political Science (FISIP) Universitas Pasundan was interested to join in the leadership training initiated by non-profit organization, Pemimpin.id.
The student from Karawang has been active in Pasoendan Students’ Press and Publication Board (Badan Penerbitan dan Penerbitan Mahasiswa, BPPM). She has also been involved in Students’ Executive Board (Badan Eksekutif Mahasiwa, BEM) and volunteer of plastic-free youth movement.
Nabilah is one of 70 participants who was selected to join the LeadID program aiming to improve the capacity of Indonesian human resources, especially young generation. It was also initiated to make young generation be able to stand on their own and empower the others.
“I was motivated to study more, one of which is by doing this training. At least in this program, I can find the basis of self-leadership,” she explained, on Thursday, 7 October 2021.
This year, total participants who registered for the program have reached 473 from various universities. The target is civil society, such as community motivator, students’ organization activist and many more. These participants will get self-concept, self-awareness and self-regulation training.
Offering Various Benefits
Nabilah explained that the LeadID program offered various benefits. Participants will gain learning module about effective self-leadership, tutored by expert mentors on leadership field, youth network and those which are associated to alumni forum of LeadID.
“The participants have opportunity to collaborate with alumni and become volunteer in Pemimpin.id. They also get certificate and they should be active in LeadID programs, such as working on final project and other tasks,” she said.
Getting into the quarter life crisis, she started to acknowledge the importance of knowing herself. Therefore, she tried to get to know more about self-awareness (individual’s awareness in understanding him/herself) to build a better self-quality.
“Through LeadID program and her knowing about self-awareness, I hope I would be able to control the emotion, especially when having been faced to a stressful situation; also to find out more things that need to be fixed and kept,” she continued.
Optimizing Self Potential
Although she has faced technical problems, she kept following the selection steps as optimal as possible. She described her potential by responding to the questions being asked comprehensively. She also presented her contribution in a 3,5-minute-length video.
“I had my issue, on the unstable internet connection, which caused the video presentation failed to be sent. Plus, I do not have skills for video-editing. Therefore, I focused more the method rather than the video aesthetic,” she explained.
After having passed from LeadID program, Nabilah committed to contribute in BPPM Pasoendan. She will arrange the internal organization itself and invite her friends to spread the positive energy like what is emphasized in LeadID.
Emphasizing the Importance of Leadership
For Nabilah, her participation in LeadID program was not only for self-performance; but more than that, LeadID had her motivated to be a strong leader, opened for criticism and able to manage her time.
“Having a leadership spirit is important, especially for young generation; since not all people are able to be a good leader, willing to be given advices, have same goal and able to work on cooperation. You could say, leadership is a basic ability that everyone must have; how to be a leader for yourself,” she concluded. (Reta)*
