BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – Sejak 2019, Universitas Pasundan has been appointed and entrusted as one of 63 universities which has rights to hold a certification program or teacher’s profession education (Pendidikan Profesi Guru, PPG) program for independent pre-service (lit. prajabatan mandiri). The target of the first-year batch of independent pre-service PPG program is graduates who have not become teachers yet. This is to form professional teacher candidates who have noble attitude and character and have qualified knowledge and competence. Other than independent pre-service PPG program, Unpas also holds a PPG program for teachers with State Apparatus status and non-State Aparatus status who are already teaching in the education unit. Later, participants who join the PPG program will gain professional certificate for teaching. Dean of Faculty of Teaching and Education (FKIP), Dr. H. Uus Toharudin, M.Pd stated that PPG program which has been developed in Unpas referred to the Standard of Teacher’s Education (Standar Pendidikan Guru, Standar DikGu). It covers the standard of education/teaching, research and community service. “In the Educational Institution for Educational Staff (Lembaga Pendidikan Tenaga Kependidikan, LPTK), we have already carried out the PPG program reformation and improved the quality of educational process according to the National Standard of Higher Education and DikGu,” he explained. The Dean also continued that PPG program is a program for strengthening teachers’ profession to make them able to get certification which will be their preparation to be implemented to the students. The most important thing is, teacher is able to face challenge, take opportunities and prepare for competition in the era of Asean’s Economic Society (Masyarakat Ekonomi Asean, MEA) or globally. “We hope It could be in line with the vision, mission and goals of PPG program. The graduates will perform better at teaching, implementing literacy skill, and contributing to the education improvement in Indonesia,” he said. Meanwhile, Unpas Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Eddy Jusuf Sp, M.Si., M.Kom., IPU said that PPG program was in line with the requirement of teachers which is getting increased. Even more, in Permendikbud No. 83/2013, teachers’ candidates’ background does not always have to be in line with the previous educational background. “Bachelor in Teaching can participate in PPG program, while non-linear ones can take matriculation program. That way, the requirement for teachers’ need is met both in number and competence,” he said. Apart from receiving teaching certificate, participants will also get additional ‘gr’ title behind their Bachelor Degree ‘S.Pd’ title. ‘Gr’ is not only a title, but it also shows that the person concerned has the status of a professional teacher at the same time. “Graduates of PPG program should be able to dig their skills and should not let themselves left behind the students; especially in globalization era which requires them master data literacy, technology and human,” he concluded. Further detail information about PPG program can be accessed in https://ppg.fkip.unpas.ac.id/. (Reta)*
