BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – The Papua XX National Sports Week (Pekan Olahraga Nasional, PON) will be held on 2-15 October 2021. On the Movement Coordination Meeting of West Java Contingent (Rakor Pergerakan Kontingen Jaw Barat) to the Papua XX PON last August, West Java KONI (Indonesian National Sports Committee) stated that they will send their 770 athletes for 37 sports branches. Added by official sports, the total of contingent sent to Papua reached to 1.199 people.
Among all athletes, three of them are students from Faculty of Social and Political Science (FISIP) Universitas Pasundan who are going to perform in volleyball. The three athletes are Farhan Halim, Cep Indra Agustin and M. Fikri Mustofa Kamal.
Athletes joined in Pasundan Volleyball Club are grantees of Bachelor Degree scholarship in Unpas FISIP. They are excluded to pay for tuition fees for a maximum of four years of education.
The scholarship was given as an appreciation and well-being assurance after Pasundan Men’s Team won the champion, beating TNI at the score of 3-2 at the 2019 National Championship Between Club Livoli Division I in Pacitan, East Java.
Other than volleyball team in PON XX, student from Faculty of Teaching and Education (FKIP) Universitas Pasundan, Miftahul Jannah will also perform in chess sports at the Papua XVI National Paralympic Week (Pekan Paralimpik Nasional, Perparnas) representing West Java. Peparnas XVI will be held two weeks after PON XX, on 2-15 November 2021.
Today, Miftah is now attending training camp at Bandung Kalya Hotel along with other West Java representative athletes. These athletes will attend the training before going to Bumi Cendrawasih, a term we call for Papua.
Unpas Vice Rector III of Student Affairs Dr. H. Deden Ramdan, M.Si stated that the university really support these athletes and wished them perform their best. He also hoped that athletes representing West Java from Unpas should be able to give their best performance to obtain the as many medals as possible in PON XX and Peparnas XVI Papua.
“We have instructed to the faculty’s student affairs to list the students’ names, so we could give them a reward when celebrating Dies Natalis. Unpas also give a dispensation when they are in the training and matches,” he said, on Tuesday, 28 September 2021.
Reward is not only prepared for students who successfully attend PON XX and Perparnas XVI Papua, but also for those students who are excellent in both academic and non-academic. They can also submit their names to the faculty or Bureau of Student Administration.
“Good luck, in PON XX and Peparnas XVI Papua. Be sportive, confident and keep fighting,” he concluded. (Reta)*
