University of Pasundan Bandung is ready to implement the program of “Independent University” and “Freedom to Study” set by Minister of Education and Culture, Nadiem Anwar Makarim. The program includes the opening of new study programs, 3-semester internship student and outside-study-program course class.
“Yes, UNPAS is ready,” Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Eddy Jusup Sp., MSi., M.Kom explained to Media Unpas on Thursday, February 6th, 2020.
The program of “Independent University” and “Freedom to Study”, is a series of program based on the thoughts on opening broad insights and ideas that university graduates do not always end up being a researcher. The main point of Minister Makarim’s program is to give freedom for student to study.
Students who are in the academic profession concentration may take enough credits in the related campus, but for those who think about opportunity for creating jobs or works, the internship should be taken and considered as enrichment process.
“Their credit will be counted equally. During this period, the internship has been scored insignificantly. As the procedure changes, those who are doing 3-semester internship will be graded as equal for their credits, including those who are taking other study programs,” said Prof. Eddy Jusup.
The Rector also said there are graduate students who took many different study programs. For example, those who have already finished Ph.D in Economics and after that, they also take Ph.D in Law School. That would not matter at all.
“In Indonesia, Minister Makarim have certain thoughts that, students of [for example] X study program may take other non-linear study programs. Because of this approach, I think there are no problems that could be solved by only one disciplines. It could be inter-disciplines, a non-linear one,” added Prof. Eddy Jusup.
The Rector confirmed that Unpas has already been ready to open new study programs as what stated by the Minister. He already gave us [Rectors of State and Private University] authority to open the new ones [study programs]. Unpas would form a team and prepare to open them whose students would be still needed and updated in the next 4 years when they graduate.
“Unpas is ready with the new study programs. Of course, it was based on certain and further thoughts and studies. Because, when it only absorbs less than 80% of student or there are complaints from the public or there are also decrease in the number of students after 4 years, the Minister himself would automatically close the program. However, if the graduate students immediately either get job or create a job opportunity, the program would still continue,” said the Rector.
Prof. Eddy Jusup also gave some examples in explaining this. Recently, all things depend on what we call digital basis. He also said that the study program which is currently in demand is E-Commerce or E-Business. It is because that we are now in the IoT (Internet of Things) era, where everything are all digital-based. We can also see the examples in the relation of B to B
