BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – Five pencak silat athletes of Student’s Sport Coordinator (Koordinator Olahraga Mahasiswa, KOM) coached by Vice Rector III Universitas Pasundan Dr. H. Deden Ramdan, M.Si got six medals at Bandung Lautan Api Championship III held in ITB Sport Gymnasium in Jatinangor, Sumedang, 20-22 December 2021.
This biggest pencak silat championship (since Covid-19 pandemic) was attended by thousands of participants all around Indonesia, including Bali, East Nusa Tenggara, Surabaya, Jakarta and other area. Unpas KOM pencak silat athletes successfully brought two gold medals, two silver medals and two bronze medals home.
Head of Unpas KOM 2021/2022 Rafi Nurul Faturohman said that Bandung Lautan Api Championship III competed in two categories, namely match-competed category and art/performance category.
“All Unpas KOM athletes participated in the student/adult competition category. However, there is one athlete who also gets into the single-arts category,” he said, on Monday, 27 December 2021.
Rafi also stated that these athletes have themselves trained every week, so there is no special training method. However, when facing the championship, there was additional training schedule to prepare themselves more before competing.
“The training session for each athlete is certainly different. They only focus on the category they are going to compete to,” he continued.
According to Rafi, the athletes lacked of preparation; it was only about a month since they got registration information. However, Unpas KOM tried as optimal as possible to get their athletes focused on the championship.
Considering the fact that sport tournament has drastically decreased since Covid-19, Unpas KOM really appreciated and supported enthusiastically when Bandung Lautan Api Championship III was going to take place offline.
“Getting into a transition time [of Covid-19], we see that sport events are beginning to be held offline, especially in national level or in-between universities in Indonesia. We support the athlete in all sport branches to attend national championship, with a really thorough preparation indeed,” he explained.
Although it lacked some preparations and training, Unpas KOM pencak silat athletes were able to perform their hard-work and dedicate their best result. In the future, Unpas KOM will dedicate their commitment to prepare the competition more optimally.
“Thank you for the support from Unpas, that we could take participation at Bandung Lautan Api Championship III; even it has not fulfilled our target of getting four gold medals,” he continued.
