BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – Stepping on the age of 62, West Java Student Regiment (Resimen Mahasiswa, Menwa) Mahawarman keep focusing on Prevention, Eradication, Drug-abuse and Drug-trafficking (Pencegahan, Pemberantasan, Penyalahgunaan, dan Peredaran Gelap Narkotika, P4GN).
This becomes the discussion focus on webinar on West Java Menwa Mahawarman anniversary entitled “Preparing the Citizens to be Skillfully-trained in Strengthening Republic of Indonesia” virtually via Zoom Meeting, on Monday (June 13th, 2021). The webinar presented Head of West Java BNNP, Brigadier General Pol. Benny Gunawan, SH., MH., as the keynote speaker.
Also presents in the online room, Directorate General of Defense Potential (of the Indonesian Ministry of Defense), Major General Dadang Hendrayudha and the Indonesian Menwa National Commander Ir. H. Ahmad Riza Patria, MBA. Both of them congratulated Menwa Mahawarman of West Java because they still exist, are solid, and become the pillars of the country.
“Related to the theme, it is clearly stated that the existence of skillfully-trained citizens is very important and becomes the front guard as volunteer for defending the country. A skillfully-trained citizen is not only physically healthy, but also it needs clear mindset, awareness and commitment towards the country,” said Riza Patria in his speech.
West Java Menwa Mahawarman Commander as well as Unpas Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Eddy Jusuf Sp., M.Si., M.Kom., IPU conveyed that to form a skillfully-trained citizen, one of which is by the establishment and implementation of P4GN.
Regarding to the context of preparing the citizen, it is written and issued in the Law No. 23/ 2021 about Management of National Resources for National Defense which is divided into main components, reserve components, and supporting components. Community or trained citizens are part of the reserve component.
“Currently, defending the country is not only about taking a full-armed body, but about how we avoid doing activities expected to harm the nation. The use of narcotics become the main attention since it has spread to all elements of society. Therefore, as a reserve component, there needs to be an approach and resistance, both persuasively and repressively” he explained.
On his presentation, Head of West Java BNNP explained in detail the massive movement of drug-abuse, impacts of use of drugs, policy and strategy of P4GN, handling pattern, efforts taken in campus and the citizen involvement in defending the nation.
“Based on the research result, the number of prevalence on drug abuse in West Java is as much as 1,80 percent. This number showed that West Java was in the state of emergency. Indonesia is geographically open, so generally, it becomes probably potential to do drug trafficking,” he explained.
Apart from that, the marketing regeneration, modus operandi and types of drugs which are still developing, improving and growing resulted in the state bearing a loss of more than 8 trillion rupiahs.
“Because of these problems, BNN helped with other elements formed a strategy of P4GN, including by setting a prevention system and community capacity, strengthening cooperation, preventing the entry of drugs from abroad, taking action and confiscating network assets or drug offenders, and strengthening the quality of rehabilitation services to recover addicts,” he added.
He also continued that the efforts of getting rid of drugs were also carried out within campus which is likely to be a place for doing drugs transaction. Some of them signed the MoU with BNNP, formed anti-drugs volunteer task force and its regulations, doing urinal test for new students, either at the beginning of college or by sampling quarterly.
“West Java BNNP, as vertical agency of BNN and leading sector in handling narcotics issues in West Java, carries out the synergy by inviting students and all elements of society to become more active to create better West Java: to be Indonesia Bersih dari Narkoba (Bersinar) to become anti-drugs activist,” he ended.
