Unpas Declarating to Support the Program of “Kang Pisman”

Posted on August 19, 2020

Mayor of Bandung, Oded M. Danial (third from the left) along with Head of Paguyuban Pasundan Prof. Dr. HM. Didi Turmudzi, M.Si (second from the left), Rector of Unpas Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Eddy Jusuf Sp, M.Si., M.Kom (fourth from the left), Vice Rectors and other leaders of University.*

Garbage in Bandung is not less than one hundred tons every day, as stated by Mayor of Bandung, H. Oded Muhammad Danial, SAP, or also known as “Mang Oded”. He sent his speech at public lecture in Kampus IV UNPAS, Jalan Setiabudhi, Bandung, on Wednesday, February 19th, 2020. Apart being attended by students, the event held in Hall of Mandala Sabha R. Oto Iskandardinata is also attended by Head of Paguyuban Pasundan, Rector of Unpas and Vice Rectors, and other university leaders, both in the faculty and department level.

Mang Oded also said that if the garbage were compiled in football field, it could reach 75 cm at height. “By the program of ‘Kang Pisman’, we are going to try to decrease the volume of the garbage,”. If it is not handled optimally, it would be the problem for all Bandung citizens.

Kang Pisman is a program of Bandung Government related to the effort of garbage management. Kang Pisman stands for “kurangi, pisahkan dan manfaatkan” (meaning reduce, separate and utilize). This program has been widely spread around the world. The Mayor himself has conveyed on this matter and become a speaker in Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines.

The public lecture is a collaboration between Unpas and Bandung Government. About this, the Rector of Unpas Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Eddy Jusup Sp., M.Si., M.Kom stated that, “We feel so lucky that an alumni [the Mayor himself] is able to come by in the middle of his tight schedule.”. The Mayor, Oded M. Danial is an alumni of Faculty of Political and Social Science Unpas.

Unpas has always been in synergy, especially regarding the environment. When the Decree of President No. 15 on Citarum Harum was issued, the Rector responded to the Decree, “Alhamdulillah, Unpas is trusted to be the coordinator in the upstream side, while the middle part is done by other universities. Of 22 sectors, Unpas was selected to take the upstream side because we have already had a fostered territory there, in Desa Cibeureum, Kecamatan Kertasari. We have planted approximately 33 thousand avocado trees. Now it is the rainy season, we are sowing the [avocado] seeds again. Probably around April-May, we can plant them [the seeds],” said the Rector.

The Rector also added that the program of Citarum Harun itself is a national program which does not only take care of reforestation and planting, but also education, legal aspects, socio-culture and entrepreneurship as well. Likewise, as a home-base in Bandung, Unpas supports the program of ‘Kang Pisman’ set by the Mayor of Bandung. Unpas really pays attention to it. With concern for [garbage] management, starting from reducing one kilo a day, the problem [of garbage] will be resolved,” he said.

Recently, there was a student from Faculty of Environmental Engineering Unpas who have successfully created an application of Bank Sampah, which is now being offered by a company. “We refused the offer because it will be utilized by Unpas itself to manage the garbage. There is a fund of not less than 10 million rupiahs per month for waste management. Therefore, before being compiled in the dump, the garbage can be reduced by using the application,” ended Prof. Eddy Jusuf.** (kk)
