BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – In order to face the challenges in the 4.0 disruption era, Communication Studies Department, Faculty of Social and Political Science (FISIP) Universitas Pasundan officially launched its multimedia laboratory, along with the series of Semarak Ramadhan and health socialization program at the Hall of Suradireja, Unpas Campus I, Jalan Lengkong Besar NO. 68, Bandung, on Monday, 3 May 2021.

The launching of multimedia laboratory on Communication Studies Department is part of learning process in supporting the curriculum of Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program. Apart from that, it is to testify the passing-grade standard in the department.

Dean of Unpas FISIP Dr. M. Budiana, S.IP., M.Si stated that the multimedia laboratory which has been officially launched was the result of previous laboratory revitalization. Today, the laboratory has been completed with Apple device as well as proper room capacity.

“Alhamdulillah, the department [of Communication Studies] has today successfully launched its [Soft Opening] Multimedia Laboratory. On the context of Merdeka Belajar, this lab should be used as optimal as possible by the students, especially to support the digital marketing and graphic design. Let us strengthen them with methodology, theory and creating useful product in the 4.0 era,” he said.

Although the laboratory is under the supervision of Communication Studies Department, other study programs in FISIP are also allowed to take advantage of it as the actualization of Merdeka Belajar program, and so are the other study programs on different faculties which have already collaborated with FISIP.

By this multimedia laboratory, Head of Communication Studies Department H. Rasman Sonjaya, S.Sos., M.Si hoped that students could improve their skills, especially on the courses that required the activity in the laboratory, such as audio-visual, digital marketing and graphic design.

“The facility improvement in the laboratory aims to switch the conventional way of work to the digital ones. We hope this lab could provide additional value and capabilities to compete to other universities,” he said.

In the near future, multimedia laboratory will supervise two laboratory practices, namely graphic design and digital marketing. Students will be led to learn and understanding technical matters related to graphic, vector and bitmap.

Meanwhile, to adjust the marketing condition which is mostly taking advantage on technology today, students will learn the basics of marketing strategy in the digital field, create contents, as well as creating the advertisements and the way of distribution through social media.

“These matters, we think, are suitable to what are needed in the disruption era. We hope the multimedia lab could gather students’ creative ideas in order to create the work and assignment’s concept,” he added.

Currently, the process of multimedia laboratory improvement taking 2.5 months of preparing has already been 99%. It only needs to be finished by adding few mural ornaments and other elements. The plan is that this lab will be used for odd semester class. (Reta Amaliyah S)*
