BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – Rector of Universitas Pasundan Prof. Dr. H. Eddy Jusuf Sp, M.Si., M.Kom., IPU welcomed a visit of Head of National Agency for Terrorism Countermeasure (Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Terorisme, BNPT), Commissioner General Pol. Boy Rafli Amar along with his staffs, on Thursday, 13 January 2022.

Beside to hold silaturahmi, on that occasion, Head of BNPT also discussed about the development of dialogue-based collaboration concept to educate young generation within university regarding the danger of radical terrorism.

According to him, young generation is vulnerable to be exposed to radical terrorism. He thought that collaborating with academicians, including Universitas Pasundan, is really needed; in order to prevent the exposure of radicalism and terrorism on young generation.

“This is our [BNPT] effort in educating and carrying out narrative-counterattack on radical terrorism propaganda spread by terrorist network. Even more, now they mostly look for young generation as their target to become their followers,” he said.

He also stated that Unpas, with a number of tens of thousands of students, is really appropriate to be the centre of education. Therefore, students of Unpas could avoid themselves from being exposed of the violence-based ideology.

“We would like to save young generation from this kind of exposure. If there is one of them being exposed, the treatment would certainly be different. It is similar to the virus; terrorism should be treated with ‘proper vaccines’, namely by strengthening the national insight and spirit of defending the country,” he said.

These steps will probably establish a better defence, therefore, when we are faced with those kinds of ideologies and things leading to the intolerance, people should be able to see it themselves and refuse to it independently.

“So, we need to improve early-stage awareness so concept of radical terrorism will not be spreading a lot. It is the ideal condition we expect to happen,” he added.

Rector of Unpas Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Eddy Jusuf said that BNPT programs is still relevant to his activities in West Java Association of Indonesian Private University (Asosiasi Perguruan Tinggi Swasta Indonesia, APTISI) and Alliance of University Volunteers for Anti-Drugs Abuse (Aliansi Relawan Perguruan Tinggi Anti Penyalahgunaan Narkoba, Artipena)

“We try to strengthen the penta-helix relation, one of which is by collaboration in implementing de-radicalization program. We also have already started the Prevention, Eradication, Abusement and Drugs Illegal Distribution (Pencegahan, Pemberantasan, Penyalahgunaan dan Peredaran Gelap Narkotika, P4GN) as a form of defending the country,” he affirmed.

Other attempts related to preventing terrorism have already been implemented in Faculty of Social and Political Science (FISIP) through its compulsory course ‘Terrorism as Global Threat’ (Terorisme sebagai Ancaman Global).

“Unpas is going to open Centre of Terrorism Studies to streamline movements related to radicalization,” the Rector explained.

The plan is that in February Unpas will hold a cooperation agreement and MoA with BNPT to make it run together to avoid the dangers of terrorism in society. (Reta)*
