BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – To overcome traffic jams problems in Bandung, teacher of Department of Public Administration FISIP Universitas Pasundan Dr. Imas Sumiati, M.Si. reviews that there needs to be a clear and strict regulation.
She thinks that instead of attempting to build the road construction, it would be more effective for government to set the regulation regarding the restriction of number of vehicles.
Besides taking a long time, road construction also costs a lot of money. For this reason, it is necessary to limit the number of vehicles instead of widening roads, building flyovers, and other infrastructure.
This follows the Bandung City Government’s plan to build two flyovers and an underpass to relieve the traffics after the completion of the Kopo flyover construction which is considered successful in reducing traffics at Kopo and Cibaduyut intersections.
“Road construction takes a long time. A small example, at FISIP Unpas, teachers are not allowed to drive a car to campus. Likewise with students, they are only allowed to drive motorbikes,” she explained.
She added that the regulations set must be clear, even the threat of sanctions for those who violate it. This is so that all parties want to obey and follow the applicable regulations.
“Regulation on vehicle restrictions must be binding, so that the power of leadership/ authority will be built,” he added.
For those reasons, she hoped that the government could attend and seriously manage everything; for example, by coordinating with relevant agencies or institution to resolve traffics in Bandung.
Plus, concerning the fact that Bandung is in the rainy season, it has potential to flood and cause heavy traffic jams.
If it was left unchecked, this will become a serious problem in Bandung. The government should be able to take quick steps, because the growth in the volume of vehicles in Bandung is quite high.
