
BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – Department of Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering Universitas Pasundan attempts to improve teachers’ competencies in analysing the environmental sustainabililty thorough Environmetal Sustainability Analysis Training.
This training is the implementation of Competition Program of Kampus Merdeka (Program Kompetisi Kampus Merdeka, PKKM) which will be held for five days, 19-23 September at the Digital Laboratory in the department. Head of the Department of Environmental Engineering, Dr. Ani Rochaeni, M.T said that the laboratory used in the department was also funded by PKKM grant.
“The training involves 7 teachers of the department. We already notice that there are many constructions development which are stalled, so we do feel rushed to analyse the sustainability of development carried out by the government and the community,” she said.
These competencies will later be distributed to students so that they can assist activities in the field, especially in analysing the environment. Next week, students will also receive the same training as a provision for internships in various development activities.
The training focuses on the use of tools and applications which supports the process of sustainability process. There are approximately five tools which will be studied in order to support teachers’ skill in making decision regarding the environmental sustainability matters (decision makers).
“Teachers attending the training are from various bases of skills, including experts/specialists drinking water, waste management and air. We try to synchronize it with existing tools so that it can enter the sectors we are currently studying,” she continued.
Collaborating with Indonesian Science Centre
In this training, Department of Environmental also collaborates with Indonesian Science Centre, one of the most well-known environmental training centres. It is also actively developing and utilizing environmental sustainability analysis tools.
“There is a common vision between the department and the Indonesian Science Centre which is very possible to collaborate,” he said.
Vice Dean I of Unpas Faculty of Engineering Dr. Ririn Dwi Agustin, M.T. hoped that teachers are able to take advantage of the results of the training to support students’ competency, and even improve external services.
“We hope we could grow the name of both department and faculty bigger, so that they can develop, exist, and be motivated to increase cooperation,” she hoped.
The Head of Unpas MBKM Organizer, Dr. Cartono, M.Pd., M.T. emphasized that the synergy between the Department of Environmental Engineering and the Indonesian Science Centre must have a positive impact, especially in building public trust and boosting each other’s existence.
“The achievement of this PKKM grant is something to be grateful for. Moreover, in terms of numbers, Unpas is one of the universities that received the 2022 PKKM grant in the perfect category. Unpas is entered into league 1, a league that is fairly prestigious because not all institutions can get into it,” he explained.
Environmental Engineering Study Program, he continued, is expected to achieve maximum output, thus encouraging the realization of healthy universities. “This activity is an acceleration tool to show that Unpas Department of Environmental Engineering has advantages over similar study programs at other universities,” he said.
