BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – Universitas Pasundan along with other penta-helix elements attempts to re-encourages nation’s defence and contribution of preserving nature through Citarum Harum program.
Next week, on Thursday, 17 November 2022, Unpas, Governor of West Java, Kodam III/Siliwandi, West Java Regional Police Department, Kodiklat AD, academician representatives, as well as media will observe Sector 5 of Citarum Harum.
Unpas’ contribution to actualize Citarum Harum has already been carried out since 2014. Unpas involved thousand of students and initiated to plant a forest for educational purpose in the upstream of Citarum River, Desa Cibeureum, Kertasari Sub-District, Bandung District.
“New students should also take part on this program, including by contributing 5 avocado seeds to be sown in the upper of Citarum River. Alhamdulillah, there are currently 32 thousand trees have grown healthily in the area,” he said, on Saturday, 12 November 2022.
On his visit to Sector 7 Citarum Harum last November 2021, the Rector gave the appreciation for area around the river which looks much cleaner than before Citarum Harum program was initiated.
“Until a few years ago, Citarum was known as the dirtiest river in the world. Unpas tries to answer this challenge by involving students and the community to deal with the problem of waste and other pollution caused by the Citarum river,” he continued.
At the end of 2018, Unpas also sent 250 students to carry out the Thematic KKN for one month along the Citarum River Basin (Daerah Aliran Sungai, DAS).
Unpas’ 2018 Thematic used a cultural approach, one of which is through good waste management behaviour with the 3R system (reduce, reuse, recycle).
Apart from being useful in decomposing waste, the 3R system also has economic value because it produces compost and liquid fertilizer. The fertilizer produced also creates a more environmentally friendly organic plant cultivation.
The 2018 Unpas Thematic KKN program were continued with thematic KKN activities that were not limited in time, and Unpas even fostered several villages in the Citarum river area.
“Together with the closing of the 2018 Thematic KKN, Unpas handed over a plastic waste chopper machine, a biopori-making machine, and a number of cleaning tools to the people of Desa Jelegong, Kutawaringin Sub-district, Bandung District,” he explained. (Reta)**
