BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – To improve quality of education, the Department of Communication Studies, Faculty of Social and Political Science Universitas Pasundan keeps organizing and maintaining in various divisions/ sectors, one of which is by empowering the role of laboratory in supporting learning process.
Head of the Department of Communication Studies, Rasman Sonjaya, S.Sos., M.Si stated that the department established in 1999 has already had 7 laboratories, namely television lab, photography lab, radio lab, public speaking lab, film lab, digital marketing lab and graphic design lab. It was also equipped with laboratories in the level of faculty, including language lab, statistic lab and computer lab.
These laboratories in the Department have already been really adequate, both in terms of spatial planning, equipment, utilities, and governance systems. This is to support the implementation of the curriculum which requires more than 40 percent of the courses to be correlated with the carrying capacity of the laboratory.
“These labs have important roles, since curriculum in the department is mostly about practical skill which needs to be supported by lab equipment,” he said, on Tuesday, 30 November 2021.
In line with the regulation issuance of Limited Face-to-face Learning Process (Pembelajaran Tatap Muka, PTM), Department of Communication Studies is currently applying for a permit to Kemendikburistek for the implementation of Limited PTM.
“The proposal covers up 50% of the total students, provided that the persons/students concerned has been vaccinated twice, live in Bandung, as well as apply strict health protocols,” he continued.
However, the permission applied has just been for laboratory practice; while for face-to-face learning process, the permission will be carried out by university our faculty.
“As soon as we get the permission, we will directly implement the progress. However, since it has not already been given to us, we are still waiting,” he confirmed.
To keep and maintain the facilities, the use of lab is preferably prioritized for learning needs. Besides for these interests, the department will determine the process and will allow them, depending on the urgency of the activity to minimize the maintenance.
These existing laboratories are expected to create creative contents to be collaborated with other programs from other institution, especially for digital marketing lab, graphic design lab, television lab and film lab.
“Department of Communication Studies has once been visited by West Java TVRI Supervisory Board (Dewan Pengawas) team. They said that there are a lot of contents which can be produced in these laboratories, to be further collaborated with the broadcast programs in West Java TVRI. We committed to create those works,” he said.
For further details, he hoped these laboratory facilities could provide support/ help competence or achieve graduates as practitioner and media consultant, as well as consultant for strategic communication.
“Hopefully, with the supporting capacity owned, these graduates can be obtained by students, so that they are able to compete outside as optimal as possible, since they are already prepared with skills they have obtained in campus,” he concluded. (Reta)*
