BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – A university, as educational institution which establishes research, both from students and teachers, has an important role in developing and building several existing disciplines.
According to the Regulation of Ministry for Research, Technology and Higher Education (Permenristekdikti) No. 44/2015, it is stated that students of Master and Doctoral Program are required to publish their scientific paper; therefore, journal is indeed needed for their publication.
It is one of the backgrounds for the establishment of Unpas for Journals and Publication at Universitas Pasundan which was established in 2017. In addition, the unit establishment is to facilitate journals published in Unpas so that they can be categorized as good and qualified ones.
Head of Unpas Unit for Journal and Publication, Dr. Yonik Meilawati Yustiani, ST., MT, stated that the unit has an important position as a forum and helps publish scientific works, both from students and teachers in Unpas.
“There are three main things or University Tri Dharma which must be implemented, namely education and teaching, research and development, as well as community service,” she explained.
Research is the most important and strategic thing and inseparable from University Tri Dharma, therefore, teachers need to be actively and productively and expand their teaching program through research.
“University does not carry out the research only, but also more than that; the result of their research should be able to be implemented and useful for people,” she added.
There are many kinds of scientific publications, including articles published in scientific journal, books, scientific conference, scientific report, poster, as well as intellectual rights.
Dr. Yonik also explained that the unit keeps working to improve the quality, establish more researches and strengthen the management of scientific publication.
“This unit has tasks to provide facilities for journals in Unpas to be properly maintained, arranged and qualified. These days, journal management in Unpas has already been equipped with tools for draft checking similarity (similarity check) by using Turnitin, as well as DOI (digital object identifier) for published article by using cross ref,” she said.
This teacher of Unpas Environmental Engineering Department also stated that the writing habit for scientific paper and research in Unpas needs to be more accelerated, especially when it comes to teachers’ advantages when they are really productive. It will also help the institution in fulfilling the requirements for submitting research.
Meanwhile, she mentioned that teachers also need to expand their collaboration in writing a journal article along with other people from various institutions, cross-discipline, affiliation, as well as cross-countries.
“Things which are the most highlighted in writing a journal article is the clear form of research that has been carried out, literature support, as well as collaboration in a term of writers from various cross-institutions and disciplines. This is to make the research richer and more qualified,” she said.
Unpas Unit for Journals and Publications also organizes several activities to improve the competence of lecturers in the field of research including providing journal houses, OJS (open journal system) training, explanations about journal accreditation (Akreditasi Jurnal, ARJUNA), journal management assistance, holding seminars, training or workshops by inviting leading sources to improve and focus more on the quality of journal.
As publishers, Unpas and its units have already published dozens of journals that have a 2-to-5-rated Sinta. Meanwhile, several journals are still in the preparation stage for Sinta’s indexation. Several journals have also been indexed by DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journal) and a number of others are on indexing institutions.
In addition, the publication of Rumah Jurnal Unpas is on the website http://journal.unpas.ac.id which consists publication of scientific research result from various departments within Unpas, including JESS: Journal of Economic Empowerment Strategy, PasInformatik, KOLECER, SEWAKADARMA, MAHUPAS: Mahasiswa Hukum Unpas.
Pasundan Social Science Development (PASCIDEV), Garda Guru, Pasundan Journal of Mathematics Education (PJME), Wistara: Language Education and Literature Journal (Jurnal Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastra), DECISION: Public Administration Journal (Jurnal Administrasi Publik), OIKOS: Economic Education and Studies Journal (Jurnal Kajian Pendidikan Ekonomi dan Ilmu Ekonomi), and many more.
