BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – Paduan Suara Lingkung Seni Mahasiswa (Paralisma), a student’s choir community Universitas Pasundan won the silver medal at the competition of 2021 Maranatha Virtual Choir Festival (MVCF) held by Maranatha Christian University Choir, Universitas Kristen Maranatha.
The event was held as an answer for student’s choir challenge in the midst of Covid-19 pandemic. It also gave opportunity for young people to improve their skill and talent in a singing field.
The 2021 MVCF competition presented juries as well as talented musicians, such as Isyana Sarasvati, Aning Katamsi, Agasty Rama Listya, Budia Susanto Yohanes, Agustinus Bambang Jusana and Anna Tabita Abeleda-Piquero from the Philippines.
“Every week, we [Paralisma] always have a singing practice. Since there is a competition, our coordinator himself directly forms and appoints a team, looks for a suitable song and produces it, since the competition will be held online,” explained Head of Unpas LISMA, Ziyan Khatami, on Wednesday (June 2nd, 2021)
Paralisma is competing to other 18 teams of University and General Category. They sang a song entitled “Awake, My Soul” created by Elaine Hagenberg. This song was selected because it is suitable to the character of Paralisma when singing.
The practice took 2 months, consisting of arranging voice, deepening the meaning of the song, learning the diction, practicing the expression, and shooting the video, audio and editing as well. Though it is the first time they compete online, Paralisma is able to perform their best due to consistent and unified team collaboration.
“We thank to the coordinator of the choir (Paduan Suara dan Musik, PSM) Rizqy Mahendra and Puja Lestari, as well as the conductor Galang Jusuf, since they have successfully done the team coordination. Also because of that, Paralisma got the silver medal at the national event,” he said.
Paralisma also met the assessment criteria set by the juries, including intonation, vocal quality, conformity to the score, as well as the overall artistic impression. Although there have been few obstacles, such as lack of equipment and troubles in editing, Paralisma still did well.
“I guess, it is common to have few troubles since it is also our first performance online, because previously we had it in a normal condition. However, we are thankful to have and win the silver medal; our dedication to Unpas and LISMA,” said Ziyan.
The achievement also becomes an evaluation for Paralisma to keep improving quality and creating more achievements, both nationally and internationally. Paralisma is currently preparing itself for joining the national choir competition in next September (Reta Amaliyah S)*.
