BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – Although the vaccination for Covid-19 has already been distributed, health protocol still needs to be obeyed. Regarding to the condition, UNPAS Faculty of Engineering created a new innovation, which is a portable washbasin.
The innovation takes function as a washbasin which is equipped with several technology features, such as automatic sensor for the faucet, hand-wash soap, hand dryer, as well as infrared thermometer to measure body temperature.
This portable washbasin was named as Movable Washbasin, which is an innovation by UNPAS Faculty of Engineering. It has number of advantages compared to other portable sinks in general.
“It [the washbasin] is not only for washing hands, but it is also equipped with several technology features such as automatic sensor for the faucet, hand-wash soap, hand dryer, as well as infrared thermometer to measure body temperature,” said the Manager on Duty, the Vice Dean II of UNPAS Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Tantan Widiantara, S.T., M.T., on Monday (March 8th, 2021).
He confirmed that the washbasin itself has already existed since November 2020, especially in UNPAS Campus IV, Jalan Dr. Setiabudi Bandung.
“We, along with the team of Faculty of Engineering, worked together with the supplier to assemble the washbasin. We also have re-modified few features on it, such as improving the hand dryer innovation to replace the use of tissue. And we created an automatic water filling,” he explained.
The sensor equipped in the washbasin is really effective to reduce the direct touch when we need to wash our hands. Water filling also does not need to be done manually, because it was installed with a water-refill hose.
“We have installed the water-refill filling and drainage. When the tank [of water] is already empty, it does need to be refilled. When the water level is already full or up, the sensor light will be on,” he continued.
This 50-litter-water-storage washbasin has been available only in UNPAS Campus IV. Other than in the Faculty of Engineering, this washbasin is also placed in Masjid Ulul Albab and Rector’s Office.
“We place the Movable Washbasin at Masjid. When Friday Pray [lit. Shalat Jumat] is coming, for example, the officer does not need to measure the body temperature on everyone. They only need to direct people to wash [their] hands, to be more efficient,” said the Vice Dean I.
For the next plan, this Movable Washbasin will be improved more and placed in other UNPAS campuses, especially when the learning process is going to be offline (again).
Those who are coming to UNPAS, both lecturers, students, staffs and visitors, are required to obey the health protocol, including wearing face mask and keeping each other’s distances as an effort to prevent the transmission of Covid-19.
Student of Faculty of Engineering, Wynne Tetra Carlovera appreciated this innovation and technology of the washbasin. She said that it was pretty effective for students at campus.
“I really appreciated the technology of this washbasin. I hope that this washbasin could be placed in every corner of campus because we need to wash [our] hands very often,” she said. (Rico B)***
