BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – With the official launching of Pilot Plant Lab, Process Computing Lab and Multimedia Studio in Department of Food Technology, Faculty of Engineering Universitas Pasundan last week, it encouraged students and teachers to improve their quality and capability.
These labs were obtained and funded by the grant-fund from Competition Program of Kampus Merdeka (Program Kompetisi Kampus Merdeka, PKKM), an excellent scheme in the regulation of MBKM Program initiated by Kemendikbudristek. Unpas has passed the selection on the category of Liga I, along with other 31 universities; by the supervision of Vice Rector I for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. H. Jaja Suteja, SE., M.Si and Head of Unpas PKKM Task Force Dr. Cartono, M.Pd., MT.
These labs will be used to support the implementation of MBKM activities by using the concept of Teaching Factory or a learning referring to the standard and procedure required in the industry.
Dean of Faculty of Engineering Unpas Dr. Ir. Yusman Taufik, MP., stated that in addition to support the course’ practice, these labs will be used for doing activities related to student’s entrepreneurship program and teacher’s research.
“Students’ entrepreneurship skills are formed through the practical experience in maintaining the process of food production, especially in operating the line process of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC)-based beverage production,” he said on Monday, 17 January 2022.
The pilot plant process of beverage production in food-processing lab can be used for establishing both student’s and teacher’s business creativity unit; one of which is by making a new formula to create a qualified food product by using a licensed software available on the lab.
“Pilot Plant Lab makes it easier for lecturers to explain the processes that occur in beverage processing. Meanwhile, marketing can be developed through digital business units,” he continued.
In order to produce graduates who are competitive, he emphasized on students to take advantage of a series of entrepreneurial activities and collaborate with the Innovation and Business Incubator Centre (Pusat Inovasi Inkubator Bisnis) Unpas, as well as build a research climate.
“Besides growing the entrepreneurial spirit, I want there to be an increase in the achievements of lecturers and students, especially in terms of publications and research,” he said.
He hopes that, in the next similar program, all study programs at the Faculty of Engineering will have the opportunity to receive MBKM grant-fund to develop laboratories and learning processes, so as to improve the quality of graduates of the Faculty of Engineering. (Reta)*
