BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – Rector of Universitas Pasundan Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Eddy Jusuf Sp, M.Si., M.Kom., IPU becomes a speaker for international conference “Sustainable Education and Human Capital Support in EU Countries” held by RUDN University Russia and Universitas Narotama Surabaya on Saturday, 4 September 2021.
The Rector brought the presentation entitled “Human Capital and Quality Education”. In his presentation, he stated that human capital consisting of knowledge, skill and health were the main support for sustainable growth and poverty alleviation.
He thought human capital becomes the key of having the productive community. Unfortunately, in a developed country, human capital is still unbalanced. This inequality is getting sharper in the midst of rapid global change, especially in the fields of technology, demography and climate.
“Conflicts and Covid-19 pandemic have significant effect to human capital as the impact of the lack of residence, as well as access on public health service and education. These impacts will give influence to the life, so it can also decrease the productivity in the future,” he explained.
Having a close overview on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), education and training are the key aspects in improving human capital on all levels. The targeted goals include to actualize a quality of education on all levels of education and provide opportunity for long-lasting learning.
“Other than that, it supports young generation to have relevant skill in work industry and entrepreneurship, getting rid of discrimination, as well as prioritize the role of education in order to actualize the sustainable development,” he continued.
Referred to the data “Reflection Paper: Towards a Sustainable Europe by 2030”, the target of qualified education in European countries has widely shown positive trends. This is seen by the increase of pre-school participation which reached up to 95 percent, while 80.2 percent of university graduates successfully entered work industry.
Currently, Kemendikbudristek is focusing on the creation of excellent human resources in next 5 years. It is in line with the era of industry revolution 4.0 which mostly change the life of social, economy, politics and education.
“University should be able to prepare their students to be a lifelong learner: skilful, flexible and tenacious. Based on these principles, Kemendikbudristek released and implemented the program of Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) as new regulation on the level of university,” he concluded. (Reta)*
