BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – As agent of change, students are required to be able to implement University Tri Dharma, namely education program, research and community service. Tri Dharma is not teachers’ duties only, but also responsibilities for all elements, including students and academic staffs.
In line with the urgency, Student Association of Communication Studies (Himpunan Mahasiswa Ilmu Komunikasi, Himakom) Faculty of Social and Political Science (FISIP) Universitas Pasundan initiated a program of community service called Bakti Desa.
There are approximately 40 students appointed by FISIP Vice Dean III, Drs. H. R. Sumardhani, M.Si., and Head of Communication Studies Department Rasman Sonjaya, S.Sos., M.Si to hold Bakti Desa program in Kp. Pamegarsaren RW 04, Patengan Village, Rancabali District, Bandung Regency, on Monday, 14 February 2022.
The plan is that this activity will be carried out for six days, Monday-Saturday, February 14-19 2022. Students who go to the service area will carry out social, educational, economic, cultural, and youth missions.
Few weeks before the program takes place, Unpas FISIP Himakom has also done social charity through social media. The result of the donation in the form of cash, clothes and books will be distributed to the community in Kp. Pamegarsaren.
“There are a lot of aspects they can work on, including teaching at schools, empowering members of PKK, youth organization (Karang Taruna), taklim assembly. What is clear that they can immediately mingle with the community,” explained the Head of Communication Studies Department, Rasman Sonjaya, S.Sos., M.Sc.
Rasman also said that Bakti Desa program is an activity which is routinely held by Unpas FISIP Himakom as a form of the third point of University Tri Dharma.
“Bakti Desa program refers to the experience of previous organizers. The activity is always well-prepared and maintained, people’s responses are also positive, so that they ask us to hold it again,” he said.
The faculty and department emphasized that the appointment of student to Kp. Pamegarsaren holds the big task/ burden of the institution. Therefore, students are asked to maintain the image of students’ association, department, faculty and university.
“Students hold these burdens, so they should not be reckless or tarnish those good names of Unpas,” he said.
Students are also urged to apply the knowledge they got in college, identify the current issues and provide solutions to the society.
“Since it is still in Covid-19 pandemic, I urge you to keep obeying health protocol. Do not let the program make the students or people being exposed by the virus because of ignoring the protocol,” he confirmed.
Later, the department will also monitor Bakti Desa program regularly to keep it under control and run smoothly as it should.
“Today, we appoint Secretary of the Department and Staff of Student Affairs to help monitor the activity. There should be a monitoring-time every day, to make it still under control,” he concluded. (Reta)*
