BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – As part of the implementation of Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) Program and dealing with the current industry development, Unpas continues to improve the quality of education and create students to be able to face current challenges.
One of the parts of MBKM Program initiated by Kemendikbudristek is the Certified Internship and Independent Study (Magang and Studi Independen Bersertifikat, MSIB) Program which provide huge opportunity for students to be able to study outside the formal course classes.
Regarding the matters, Person in Charge (PIC) of Internship Program in Industry of Unpas MBKM, Ir. Wahyu Katon, M.T stated that the program has positive effects for students, especially in improving their competence and work experience.
He thought that the program is important for students before they really graduate from college. At least, they have already felt the experience of real work field, so in the future, they will be able to compete and be prepared to work in industry.
“MSIB Program has a lot of beneficial advantages, especially for students, since all of them, even cross-discipline students, have same opportunity to join the program. Besides, it can also increase their experience and knowledge outside the class,” he said on Wednesday, 4 August 2021.
As PIC of one of 9 Forms of Learning Activity (Bentuk Kegiatan Pembelajaran, BKP) of MBKM program, he is responsible for coordinating the students to join the internship program, both from Kemendikbudristek in MBKM and other programs.
In addition, as part of Unpas commitment to gather students and introduce the internship program to them, university facilitate them (through the faculty and study program) with socialization, training and internship recognition which can be converted to 20 credits.
Wahyu Katon, teacher of Unpas Industrial Engineering, also added that each study program should prepare a curriculum based and related to the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and MBKM so the study program itself can implement and improve the curriculum based on the National Standard of Higher Education.
“The MBKM program is MSIB in this case. When the student has already finished the internship, the credit could be recognized to 20 credits according to their own study program,” he explained.
Since the registration for internship program (Odd Semestter 2021/2022) was officially opened last June 2021, he and his team have done a socialization program and coordination, along with the faculty, to the students, to inform about the program. He also stated that students’ enthusiasm was quite good.
“Since June, we have started to make a socialization to the students. We also have coordinated along with the faculty and study program. It included program introduction, requirements, and also registration mechanism for students. Since it is still in the midst of Covid-19 pandemic, we did it online,” he explained.
Students who join MSIB Program were given opportunities to take internship program in industry or actual professional field for one to two semesters. Sectors of industry which are available in the program include sectors of technology, health and services, State-owned Enterprises, multi-lateral and non-profit institutions, services and many others.
He himself also hoped that students who have registered to the program and are in the selection process would pass and run the internship smoothly and conveniently.
“Hopefully, student who have registered to the program would be able to run the program smoothly and easily. The main thing is to make this opportunity as good as possible, and learn the knowledge and get the experience as mush as possible,” he hoped.
Meanwhile, reported from the Instagram account of Magang Merdeka @magangmerdeka, there are 104.633 students who have registered to the MSIB Program this year. The selection will still be holding until 7 August 2021. (Rico B)*
