BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – At the moment of upgrading vision and mission of Universitas Pasundan, teachers along with other academic civitas joined the briefing program of Islamic and Sundanese values online, on Thursday, 9 September 2021.
Both materials (Islamic and Sundanese Values) were presented by Head of Institution for Islamic Syiar Studies and Development (Lembaga Pengkajian and Pengembangan Syiar Islam, LP2SI) Dr. H. Tata Sukayat, M.Ag and Head of Institution for Sundanese Culture (Lembaga Budaya Sunda, LBS) Dr. Hawe Setiawan, M.Sn.
The event was officially opened by the Head of Pasundan Foundation of Higher Education (YPT Pasundan) Dr. H. Makbul Mansyur, M.Si. He emphasized that the upgrade of Unpas’ vision and mission is not only teachers’ responsibility in the related concern (Islamic and Sundanese), but also all elements who are involved in the learning process.
“Do not rely on the theory only in the class, but it needs to be implemented by all structural positions, both teachers, academic staffs and students. The education’s roadmap in Unpas should be really implemented in the annual program, therefore the graduates will have different unique character than those in the other universities,” he explained.
Rector of Unpas Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Eddy Jusuf Sp, M.Si., M.Kom., IPU stated that the briefing program is really important to review the direction and policy of Unpas vision and mission, since this time-board will end this December 2021.
“Unpas vision is still the same with the previous one, but its time-board is updated to the next 15 years, namely to become the international academic community which uphold Islamic and Sundanese values in 2037,” he said.
Unpas mission also does not change at all, but in order to actualize its vision, there needs to be an improvement of activity and decision-making based on certain standard in organizing and maintaining the university.
Building Islamic Character on Individuals
According to Head of LPPSI, to actualize the motto pengkuh agamana, there needs to be a program of embedding Islamic character on each individual. If the values are already embedded tightly as a character, its behaviour and characteristics will also follow.
“Islamic character is seen and actualized through the behaviour and attitude. First, by implementing 99 asmaul husna. Second, by implementing 4 prophet’s characters within academicians’ community showed by integrity, ability to convey ideas to the students, accountability and competency. Third, by embedding Islamic values, like saying greeting (salam), sharing with others, doing silaturahmi and doing night prayer,” he explained.
Apart from being written in the vision, Unpas has already fulfilled the indicator of pengkuh agamana which consist of four aspects, namely improving the religion’s understanding and experience, improving moderation and tolerance with other religions, improving other supporting facilities and infrastructure.
Micro strategy to make Islamic behaviour habit within campus can at least be done with four things, namely by sharing it in the class, course culture, extracurricular activities and daily activities at home.
“Islamic values can be integrated to each course and extracurricular, as well as made it habit in daily activity in the campus or at home, for as long as it is similar to those which is in course credit,” he continued.
Actualizing Sundanese Values in Unpas
Mentioned about Sundanese values, Head of LBS described them through literature appreciation of Sundanese figures who have worked and served in Unpas. It was started by describing brief poem written by the late of Sundanese poet, Wahyu Wibisana that actually have successfully covered the vision and mission of Unpas only within 6 lines.
He also presented the books of Unpas seniors who have mostly served in formulating Unpas vision, including the book entitled ‘Mulangkeun Panineungan’ written by Prof. Drs. H. R. Muchtar Effendi.
“In that book, it was described that in reaching its dream, Unpas did try hardly to create graduates who are luhung elmu-panemuna and broad-minded; faithful and feared to Allah SWT, but still able to maintain the culture left by their ancestors [Sundanese],” he explained.
Apart from that, a book entitled ‘Nur Hidayah’, written by Hidayat Suryalaga who have served as Head of Unpas LBS, was a three-series book containing of saritilawah of the Koran which is displayed in the form of pupuh (Sundanese poetry).
“This is the works of academician within Unpas in actualizing the meeting-point between the values of Islamic religiosity and Sundanese culture. He continued the tradition that had been pioneered by their ancestors in adapting the Koran to Sundanese writing,” he explained.
He manifested Pasundan as the place for everything related to Sundanese. Pasundan should be understood as cultural environment: language, letters, literature, value system, knowledge, religion and culture.
“The thing is, to find for the existence of Sundanese culture, it can be seen from its language. If the language is not used properly, the culture itself would be gone,” he concluded. (Reta)
