BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – West Java contingent successfully won the general champion at the event of Pekan Olahraga Nasional XX (PON XX) Papua with 133 gold medals, 105 silver medals and 115 bronze medals; 353 medals in total and won the standings in Papua PON XX.
Other contingents could not catch the West Java medal until the closing day of the XX Papua PON on Friday, 15 October 2021. West Java’s last gold medal was donated by men’s freestyle 1500-meter swimming.
West Java’s winning by getting general champion has repeated the same success at the PON XIX event in Bandung five years ago. West Java also came out as the general champion with 217 golds, 154 silvers and 158 bronzes.
West Java won 15 sport branches competed at that event: canoeing, rowing, traditional boat, taekwondo, karate, indoor hockey, indoor volleyball, weightlifting, badminton, shooting, chess, aero-sport-hanging, Pencak Silat and athletics,
This success certainly cannot be separated from the slick performance of the athletes in other sports represented by students from Universitas Pasundan, including volleyball, karate, water polo, and others.
West Java volleyball team represented by three students from Unpas FISIP: Farhan Halim, Cep Indra Agustin and M. Fikri Mustofa Kamal successfully beat DKI Jakarta by the score of 3-1 in the final round and brought the gold medal.
In women’s water polo, student from Social Welfare Studies Department, Selfia Nur Fitroch won the silver medal for West Java, meanwhile the bronze medal was also obtained by student from International Relation department, Vega Megiantary in karate.
Vice Rector III of Student Affairs Dr. H. Deden Ramdan, M.Si ensure that Unpas would appreciate these students who brought the medals in Papua PON XX. Even more, Dean of FISIP Dr. M. Budiana, S.Ip., M.Si as well as Deputy of West Java KONI was also the head of contingent.
“We are really proud with the achievements. Academic civitas, the Dean of FISIP especially also led the [West Java] contingent, as well as students who brought and won the medals,” he said.
Until this news was reported, Publication Team was still collecting data about Unpas’ students who took participation in Papua PON XX.
“This shows that Unpas is recognized everywhere; ‘katara ayana, karasa manfaatna’. And for the winners, faculty leaders as well as university will give them appreciation,” he concluded. (Reta)*
