BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – A Certified Internship Program for College Student (Program Magang Mahasiswa Bersertifikat, PMMB) initiated by Indonesian Forum of Human Capital provides opportunities for college students to be able to get the knowledge and experience in work field.
This 6-month internship in the State-owned Enterprise has 2 types of programs, namely industry-certified internship and competence-certified internship. In the 2021 PMMB Batch 1, there were more than 21 thousand internship students spread in 146 State-owned Enterprises throughout 35 provinces.
There are three Unpas students who successfully passed the selection in the PMMB Batch 1, one of them is Rima Selvia Utami, a 2017-grade Faculty of Law student. When receiving and doing the internship program, Rima was also running to finish her study.
She admitted that she was challenged to improve her competency and experience, although she had to spare her time while doing her study as well. She thought the program was a chance for college students to get to know more about the work field.
“When joining the PMMB program in my last-year of study [semester 7], there were some unfinished courses and final thesis, but Alhamdulillah, at the same time, I can finish all of them. Last May, I also got my final exam trial,” she said, on Tuesday, 28 July 2021.
This September-born student also stated that she has only 2 months of internship program, which will be finished in next September 2021. She was placed in a company establishing in water supply and electricity for public use, Perum Jasa Tirta II in Purwakarta, West Java and has duties in areas related to law.
During the internship, finalist of 3rd-gen Unpas Campus Ambassador 2019 also stated that there were a lot of new experiences she obtained outside academic activities. This internship, she said, could be the indicators for herself to keep improving her soft skill and hard skill.
Rima explained few differences between work field and academic activities. The knowledge she got from work was new experiences. She said that we should not be scared to start and hesitate to ask if we find some problems at work.
“If there are things we need to ask, we should not hesitate to do it. Because there are mentors here that we can rely on to solve much problems in completing the work,” she said.
In addition, during the internship, she became getting used to face the duty deadline, therefore she can continue to manage her time well, both in and out of work.
“When there is a task to be finished, we got used to the deadline, target and sparing/managing time,” she explained.
Apart from meeting new people within work environment, there were a lot of students from various places around Indonesia that were placed in the same company. Therefore, Rima admitted that she was able to build new links and relation.
There are a lot of advantages when meeting new people, like sharing experience, exchanging ideas and grow wider relations.
“A lot of internship-student from various universities around Indonesia. We got to know each other, share experiences and knowledge with these people,” she continued.
She also said she were motivated to give her best since she and her two friends were the first taking the PMMB.
“We are the first-generation who got the PMMB. We were motivated to give our best, work as optimal as possible and should be the role model for our junior in the next future,” she said.
Apart from that, she also gave advices to other students who will take part in this internship to be always optimistic and not to be doubtful to try.
“The thing is, do not hesitate to try and be always optimistic. If there is a will, there is also a way. Hopefully, it could be inspiration and motivation for the others,” she concluded. (Rico B)*
