Unpas FKIP Holding Writing Workshop and Publication of Science-literacy-based Textbook for Teachers

Posted on October 3, 2021

BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – To improve teachers’ potential in writing a teaching material, Faculty of Teaching and Education (FKIP) Universitas Pasundan collaborated with national publisher RajaGrafindo Persada to hold a Writing Workshop and Textbook Publication online, on Friday, 6 August 2021.

On that occasion, Dean of Unpas FKIP, Dr. H. Uus Toharudin, M.Pd and RajaGrafindo Persada Senior Editor Monalisa, M.Si attended the event as presenters. The Dean conveyed the materials about the preparation of scientific literacy-oriented teaching materials for students.

He explained about the importance of teaching materials in the education process and steps to prepare the materials themselves. Previously, he also has published two textbooks entitled “Membangun Literasi Sains Peserta Didik dan Literasi Sains Pendekatan Pembelajaran Kontemporer”.

“Scientific literacy is important to make us able to think critically, solve problems creatively, work together, and get better communication to each other. Basically, scientific literacy should be contextual, fulfil the need of social, culture, and citizenship, based on the education quality standard which is holistic, integrated, collaborative, and participative,” he said.

In preparing scientific-literacy-oriented teaching material/ textbook, there are four criteria which should be paid attention to, namely to the aspect of understanding scientific terms, reading scientific names, teaching science and aspect of communicating verbally in scientific teaching.

“To analyse and develop the materials, it also needs 4 categories consisting of science as a body, science as a tool of analysis, science as a way of thinking and science as technology interaction with the community,” he continued.

He thinks a good teaching material will include elements of accuracy, relevance, communicativeness, completeness and systematic, students-oriented, sided with the ideology of the nation and state, proper language rules, legible as well as readable.

Steps to prepare the science-literacy-oriented teaching materials consists of three parts, namely planning, writing, and teaching materials use. Although it seems simple, it requires a full attention to the main point in each step.

“Teaching materials development is adjusted to the need of curriculum and consider the basis of teaching: starting from the easy ones, repeating/ reviewing the subject to strengthen the understanding, responding to a positive feedback, giving a learning motivation and easiness, as well as knowing perfectly the result to be achieved,” he explained.

Therefore, the advantage of teaching materials development will be found much easier. The obtained materials will be in line with the curriculum and learning purpose. In addition, it could also improve an effective learning communication between teachers and students.

The workshop was continued with the delivery of teaching material by the Senior Editor of RajaGrafindo Persada and closed with a question-and-answer session with participants from Unpas FKIP. (Reta)*
