Novadila Ramadhan, Unpas FISIP Student Passed the Indonesia Youth Action Selection in Sebatik Island

BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – Becoming a student, it feels boring when you only deal with campus activities. Besides, there are many chances to develop the potential and advantages to give to other people.

These chances are not being wasted by Novadila Ramadhan, a class-of-2018 student of Communication Studies Departmen Faculty of Social and Political Science Universitas Pasundan. She and other 17 volunteers from various disciplines of study were selected as the delegates of Indonesia Youth Action (IYA) in Sebatik Island.

IYA is a program of community’s social and youth empowerment in 3T region. The program help reach the target of SDG Desa held by Indonesia Youth Action Foundation. IYA has its centre office in Banda Aceh and was established in 2020.

There are three processes of registration, namely Fullly Funded (100% funded by IYA Foundation), Partial Funded (50% discount), and Self-funded (100% self-funded). There are three participants who have been fully funded. Dila became the participant who passed the Partial Funded.

This student from Bandung, who is familiarly called as Dila, successfully passed the series of competitive selection. Dila will hold and bring social mission entitled Action Youth #3 in Desa Sungai Limau, Kecamatan Sebatik Tengah, Kabupaten Nunukan, North Kalimantan in next 23-29 October 2021.

Working on Four Main Programs

“There are four main focuses we will be implementing, namely education program, health program, social environment program, tourism program as well as creative economy program. I choose education division program and previously have already proposed for three working programs,” she said on Wednesday, 18 August 2021.

In the education division, program that will be carried out consist of inspiration class, reading club for the community, basic training of marching troop (Pasukan Baris Berbaris, PBB), country defence education, school of nature, literacy development, as well as soft skill and children creativity development.

Health division focuses on the program of mass teeth brushing, medical check-up, balanced-nutrition and healthy-toddlers counselling, and others. Meanwhile, creative economy division focuses on teaching how to make and produce sticky rice, bazaar, and youth art festival.

“Social environment division will later provide an understanding of the simple processing of household waste (eco-enzymes), the manufacture of trash bins, and sustainable food house programs such as live pharmacies that utilize herbal plants,” she said.

Strong Will Improving community’s quality of education

Dila was previously going to attend the internship program which was required by the campus, considering she herself has been in to the 7-semester student. However, most of the offices still underwent WFH regulation at the time, while Dila is a cheerful person who prefer working in the field to staying at the office.

Coincidentally, Dila said she found the information about Action Youth #3 in the social media by chance, a week before the registration was closed. She even has just fulfilled the document and essay containing her work program in the last day of registration.

“Before deciding to register, I have previously done research to capture brief description about what I was going to do there. The research is important in order to make the work program designed in accordance with the actual problems of the community,” she said.

On her essay, Dila proposed three main focuses, namely to let the students read the book for 15 minutes before the courses starts, to improve students’ soft skill through interesting activity and to initiate the foster-brotherhood program.

“At the border of North Kalimantan, there is SD 004 Central Sebatik, the majority of the students are from Malaysia. To get to school, they need to walk few kilometres, even taking up to 1 hour. While waiting for their friends to come, students at are required to read a book for 15 minutes. I want this good habit to be applied in other schools to build literacy,” she continued.

Dila also wanted to improve children’s soft skill to form their confidence at early age, so they can uplift their family’s name. Especially, there are lots of people who do think that going to school was not really necessary, because working at the palm oil plantation or becoming fisherman.

Out of Comfort Zone and Giving Best Contribution

Through her participation in the program Action Youth #3, Dila wanted to give her best contribution in Sebatik Island. Dila, who has always been active in campus, also hoped that she would be able to give positive impression for the community to be able to empower human and natural resources.

“Since junior high, high school, until college, I feel that I only move in the scope of students and education. Therefore, I thought to be more productive and get out of my comfort zone by serving the community. I hope, there would be a long-term continuation of this program and I could also hold similar activities for the community around me,” she concluded. (Reta)*
