BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – Universitas Pasundan is currently preparing two departments to be submitted for international accreditation. Department of Management Faculty of Economics and Business is targeted to be the first department to obtain international accreditation, followed by Department of Food Technology, Faculty of Engineering (Fakultas Teknik).
Rector of Unpas, Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Eddy Jusuf Sp., M.Si., M.Kom., IPU stated that the international accreditation has already been proposed since last year; but it was postponed due to Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, actual visit has not been carried out yet.
“Seeing the technical implementation, it is actually almost similar to the national accreditation proposal submission. The difference lays on its accreditation institution which needs to be confirmed by Kemendikbudristek. Unpas has once arranged it with the Accreditation Service of International College (ASIC), but actually it was not listed on the accreditation institution that is confirmed by Kemendikbudristek,” he explained, on Monday, 20 September 2021.
As for Department of Food Technology, Unpas will submit it to the Indonesian Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (IABEE) on next April 2022. IABEE has been confirmed by Washington Accord bilaterally.
According to the Rector, international accreditation is not only about prestige, but also the efforts to actualize the vision of becoming an international academic community (world-class university) which upholds Sundanese and Islamic values.
Apart from having global recognition, international accreditation also represents the university itself. This recognition is important to obtain, especially when it is related to the Framework of Indonesian National Qualification (Kerangka Kualifikasi Nasional Indonesia, KKNI) or graduates’ equality.
“International recognition is important to obtain so that both domestic and foreign Bachelor graduates could be equal. Therefore, there will not be any foreign Bachelor graduates who are paid higher than domestic graduates,” he continued.
The Rector also said that if Unpas could get its international accreditation, there need to be improvement of human resource and expand its cooperation with other foreign university.
“So far, FEB has already undergone international class with Kyunghee University, South Korea. A joint research and conference project have also been carried out at the same time. As for international cooperation, Unpas has also collaborated with other 42 foreign universities,” he explained.
The achievements of international accreditation is expected to provide advantages, including to improve students’ interest to get into the related department, provide the information for graduates’ user to know the level of students’ preparedness to enter professional work and facilitate its mobility in undergoing student exchange program since it has already owned clear qualification.
The important paradigm in achieve an international accreditation is to make the outcomes of learning process, assessment and outcomes’ evaluation as the basis of quality assurance and academic strategy planning. (Reta)*
