BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – Department of Economics Development, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Pasundan held a Short Course entitled “Global Trade Governance” with Prof. Chae Wook from Yonsei University Korea.
The Short Course, which is scheduled for 10 meetings, is the implementation of the Independent Campus Competition Program (Program Kompetisi Kampus Merdeka, PKKM) grant to improve international teaching.
Every Friday-Saturday, starting from September 16 to October 15 2022, Prof. Chae will fill out an online course with different discussions for approximately 60 minutes.
This short course was attended by the leaders and lecturers of FEB Unpas, and several guest lecturers from the Universitas Islam Sumatera Utara, Universitas Mercu Buana Yogyakarta, Universitas Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa, Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, UPN Veteran Yogyakarta, Universitas PGRI, and the Universitas Islam Indonesia.
In the beginning of 2022, Prof. Chae representing Kyung Hee University, has also once presented the stadium generale (public lecture) about global value chain to the international-class student of Unpas FEB joined in e-School program.
Head of Department of Economics Development Prof. Dr. Horas Djulius, SE. said that the Short Course given by Prof. Chae is rather different than the other courses which tend to provide practical knowledge.
He thinks that this course indeed showed us more conceptual perspective and aspects.
“Prof. Chae invites us to get to know more about what behind the negotiation is, so we could understand the reason in the past to make a shifting process in the present,” he said.
In the first and second meeting, Prof. Chae discussed about the topic of history, function and principle of global trade governance.
In the next meeting, he discussed about legal and organizational structures, decision-making mechanisms, economic integration, the legal basis for RTA, trade creation and trade diversion, the Spaghetti-Bowl effect, conflicting and complementary relationships, and harmonization of multilateralism and regionalism in succession.
“Because the course is delivered in English, participants must be patient to catch and understand the content. That is a challenge for us, but if we do it, we will definitely get many benefits,” he said. (Reta)**
