BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – First day of Covid-19 Vaccination Week program for Unpas family members, students and public ran smoothly and joined enthusiastically by participants who have registered themselves online before.
The program was officially opened at 8 in the morning by Rector of Unpas Prof. Dr. Ir. Eddy Jusuf Sp., M.Si., M.Kom., IPU at Unpas Campus V, Jalan Sumatera No. 41. From the data collected, there were as much as 3.520 participants are going to have a vaccination shot starting from Thursday, 5 August 2021 until Saturday, 7 August 2021.
UNICEF Representative for Indonesia as well as teacher of Unpas Faculty of Medicine, dr. Sidik Utoro, MPH who also monitored the vaccination program stated that West Java has the most population in Indonesia, so it is hard to get the target of herd immunity.
“Herd immunity is an immunity obtained after 70% of citizens have been vaccinated. Its system should be broad and not only be carried out within the campus area,” he said.
He thought that although 80% of the academician and staffs have already been vaccinated, there would be no guarantee they would be safe from the exposure of Covid-19. There is still possibility of them getting exposed, especially if they get contact to those who have not been vaccinated.
“West Java is the province that has the toughest task in establishing herd immunity, because it has the largest population. The indicator is, if the vaccination in West Java is complete, it means that the achievement of herd immunity in Indonesia is 20 percent successful,” he continued.
Currently, UNICEF continues to monitor the implementation of vaccination program for those who are 12 years old range. He thought it would be much easier for Indonesia to get the herd immunity if this level of group has all been vaccinated.
One of the citizens from District Sukasari, Artita Bela, who is today getting vaccinated, said that she was thankful to Unpas for holding this program. She admitted that she was lucky because she had several times registered to other places for vaccination, but the quota was always full.
“I am thankful, finally I can be vaccinated without getting charge of. I got the information from the social media that Unpas would be holding the program for Bandung citizens. Alhamdulillah, I passed the screening and got vaccination really easy. By getting vaccination, at least I support the government to free Indonesia from Covid-19 pandemic,” she explained.
Based on the observation in the field, the vaccination program ran smoothly because it was divided into several session. “Alhamdulillah, the participants always stick to the protocol. After being vaccinated, they also get back to their house, so it did not cause crowds,” ended the Head of Committee for Unpas Covid-19 Vaccination Week Program, Dr. H. Deden Ramdan, M.Si. (Reta)*
