BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – In commemorating Raden Dewi Sartika’s day of birth and Mother’s Day, Paguyuban Pasundan Division for Women Empowerment and Public Health (Bidang Pemberdayaan Perempuan dan Kesehatan Masyarakat Paguyuban Pasundan) holds a webinar entitled ‘Peran Perempuan dalam Meningkatkan Kesehatan Masyarakat dan Gizi Keluarga di Masa Pandemi Covid-19 untuk Menggapai Keluarga Bahagia dan Sederhana’ on Wednesday, 15 December 2021.

The webinar presented several women as source persons, namely Member of Commission IX DPR RI, Dr. Hj. Netty Prasetiyani, M.Sc., Head of West Java Office for Women, Children and Family Planning (Dinas Pemberdayaan Perempuan, Anak dan Keluarga Berencan, DP3AKB) Dra. Hj. I Gusti Agung Kim Fajar Wiyati Oka, M.Sc and Coodinator of Food Security and Nutrition for Forum Bandung Sehat, dr. Hj. Sofa Rahmania, M.Kes.

Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, Dewi Sartika’s day of birth was usually commemorated with ceremonial activities in the Paguyuban Pasundan office yard which was attended by all levels of management, the Paguyuban Pasundan activity unit, as well as elements at YPT Pasundan and YPDM Pasundan.

Dewi Sartika is the pioneer of women’s empowerment. She fought for women to get access for education, so that women are now able to take part in national and state activities. Therefore, it is important to reminisce on the history of Dewi Sartika’s struggle to inherit noble values as a pioneer in education and a figure for women’s emancipation.

In his speech, General Chairman of Paguyuban Pasundan Prof. Dr. H. M. Didi Turmudzi, M.Sc expressed his respect for Dewi Sartika, because of her work, Indonesian women grew up to become empowered people. He also read a speech addressed to tough women.

According to him, great mothers and wives do not have to lead or occupy formal positions, because every woman has the opportunity and character of each. They are great because they can do culture and empowerment in their families, complete daily work, build peace of mind, and ensure comfortable rest.

“A pious woman always accompanies her husband and children’s steps with a sincere smile and prayer. A good and wise wife will understand that having a family is a long struggle and sacrifice. My home is my heaven, my wife is my angel,” he said.

Member of Commission IX DPR RI, Dr. Hj. Netty Prasetiyani, M.Si, a wife of former Governor of West Java, Ahmad Heryawan (Aher) explained about the role of women in improving public heath and welfare.

Currently, people’s health issues are influenced by various aspects, such as lifestyle, catastrophic disease, stunting problem, drugs abuse, people’s access, lack of promotive and preventive effort, regulation, health fund assistance, system of National Health Insurance (Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional, JKN), health facility and infrastructure, as well as health staff distribution.

“Apart from reforming health resilience, these problems can be handled by optimizing the role of women, including by adding the knowledge, improving skills, involving [our]selves to activities or social organization, and taking [our] parts which suitable to [our] interest,” she stated.

Meanwhile, Head of West Java DP3AKB, Dra. Hj. I Gusti Agung Kim Fajar Wiyati Oka, M.Si also conveyed about the role of women in reaching their family happiness and welfare. She is attended the webinar, representing Head of West Java Team for Family Welfare Development (Tim Penggerak PKK Jabar), Hj. Atalia Praratya, M.I.Kom who were unable to attend.

“The role of woman and man in a family is actually the same; the most important thing is, that there are equality, collaboration and same responsibility to make the function of family run well,” she said.

DP3AKB itself has its own strategy in the sector of strengthening the family resilience, consisting of motivator for family resilience (Motivator Ketahanan Keluarga, Motekar), school for women in reaching their dreams (Sekolah Perempuan Capai Impian and Cita-cita, Sekoper Cinta), stopping child marriage in West Java (Stop Perkawinan Anak Jabar, Stopan Jabar), accompanying kids for online school (Ngabaturan Barudak Sakola Online, Ngabaso), doing school activities safely using gadget (Sekolah Aman Menggunakan Gawai, Setangkai) and strengthening the centre of family learning activities (Penguatan Pusat Pembelajaran Keluarga, Puspaga).

Sofa Rahmania, M.Kes also stated about the role of women in improving family nutrition during Covid-19 pandemic, starting from explaining family nutrition, the importance of baby’s consumption for breast-milk, required nutrition, to suggestion for choosing good food.

“A mother’s nutritional intake affects the health of her children and grandchildren, so fulfil the child’s nutrition with breast milk and complementary foods (MPASI), avoid obesity at all ages, give a variety of foods according to the contents of PIRINGKU, make a meal schedule, avoid eating late at night, and get used to eating with family to form a good eating habit,” she concluded.
