BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – The 4.0 Industrial Revolution which also creates the disruption era shown by various huge changes in several aspects gives the challenge as well as opportunity for today’s young generation, including college students.

This becomes the main focus of webinar discussion entitled “Peranan Resimen Mahasiswa di Era Disrupsi” held by Unpas Kompi E Students’ Regiment (Resimen Mahasiswa, Menwa) online via Zoom Meeting, on Monday, 4 October 2021. This webinar also collaborates with West Java Menwa Mahawarman and was attended by few members of Menwa from various areas in Indonesia.

The webinar was officially opened by West Java Mahawarman Skomenwa Kapuspen, Dr. H. Deden Ramdan, M.Si., CICP. DBA as well as the webinar host. In his speech, he stated that the disruption era needs to be used as optimal as possible to be able to adapt to global change.

As a component of nation’s defence, Menwa has already been trained with various abilities and knowledge in facing various kind of situation and condition. On the other side, Menwa which is part of civil power are also trained and prepared to defend NKRI as an actualization of national defence system.

“Disruption era creates new changes, both in the aspects of business, economy, social, technology and innovation. At the same time, Menwa certainly has important role to give the responses to those challenges,” he said, when opening the webinar.

TK III KSAD Expert Staff Officer for Social Affairs, Major General TNI R.H. Karmin Suharna, S.I.P., M.A. as a presenter conveyed several points of challenges that need to be faced as Menwa in the current era of disruption.

If we take a look at it as a whole, this disruption era positively provides opportunities for business competition that have an impact on economic growth. However, there are also challenges, especially from the aspect of national defence that need to be watched out for, one of which is indoctrination through social media.

“As part of nation’s component, Menwa has their own main tasks and purpose as similar to TNI in defending NKRI. Related to the current disruption era, Menwa also needs to know the challenge and global intention,” he said.

This former Commander of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Darfur, Sudan, in 2015 also stated that the current threat of national defence is indeed shown by non-physical activity, which is closely related to digital disruption era.

“Current significant threat we face now is a non-physical one. For example, the use of Internet of Things (IoT), which, if it is used incorrectly, it can divide the integration of the nation itself. This is what we are facing right now,” he explained.

He also added several things that need to be improved to face the nation’s threat which can be done both by Menwa or public; namely by being the frontliners and pioneer to strengthen the basic rule of nation: Pancasila, 1945 Constitution, NKRI and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika.

Opportunity as a stabilizer in efforts to increase human resources for Menwa can also be done by conducting various trainings, education, and awards. He also mentioned that Menwa must have responsibility and loyalty as a component of a nation with noble spirit, knowledge, and education.

“Menwa has the privilege of being a student who has an important role in defending NKRI. In addition, members of Menwa should uphold the values of Pancasila by having a noble, knowledge and educated soul,” he continued.

In line with the statement from Mayor General TNI R.H. Karmin Suharna, Commader of West Java Mahawarman Student’s Regiment, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ir. H. Eddy Jusuf Sp., M.Si., M.Kom., IPU mentioned about the importance of mastering technology in the disruption era for every members of Menwa, especially in defending NKRI as the actualization of Defence and Security System of People (Sistem Pertahanan dan Keamanan Rakyat Semesta, Sishankamrata).

“To provide solution in the disruption era as an impact of digital transformation, students’ component, including Menwa, needs to adapt to the current update, know and understand the issues and problem in the 21st century,” he explained.

He also stated about the importance of facing the 4.0 Industrial Revolution, especially for students. It is important to do, considering the future challenge will be more competitive, especially when it comes to the new technology-based economic era.

This new literacy consists of three aspects: first, skill of reading, analysing and using information (big data) in digital field; second, technology literacy which means understanding the way the machine and technology application work; third, human literacy which include humanist, communication and design.

In addition, he also explained about the opportunity that need to be taken useful by students, especially Menwa, namely by joining the program Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) which has positive impact to get more knowledge and experience.

“Students’ activity that can be done outside the campus consists of internship, village project, teaching program, student exchange, research, entrepreneurship, independent project and humanity project,” he concluded. (Rico B)*
