BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – Series of the 25th anniversary of Photography Study Program, Faculty of Arts and Literature, Universitas Pasundan has come to the main event marked by the awarding of the winners of the photography olympiad and film festival.
The awarding of the winners was announced at Bandung Creative Hub Auditorium, Jalan Laswi, Batununggal, Bandung, on Friday, 11 March 2022. The highlight of the award ceremony was also enlivened with photo and camera exhibitions, as well as introducing the history of photography.
This competition was attended by participants from the internal category of the department’s students, high school students and the general public all over Indonesia. Also present were the third Dean of FISS Unpas who is also the founder of the Photography study program, Drs. H. Komar Hanafi and Dean of FISS Unpas, Dr. Hj. Senny Suzanna Alwasilah, M.Pd.
Head of the Department, Rahmadi, S.Sn., M.Sn stated that photography competition and film festival are premiere official event which will later be routine event to celebrate the anniversary.
“Since it has been established in 1996, Department of Photography has passed through long journey. Carrying out the exhibitions of photography and camera is another form of nostalgia to look back at the tools that were and are still used, both in the studio and in the darkroom,” he said.
The themes contested at the photography olympiad are culture, technology, social, and humanities. Meanwhile, for the film festival, the theme is “Indonesia Mendidik”.
The holding of the photography olympiad and film festival is nothing but to explore the potential and appreciate the visual works of photographers and the creativity of young filmmakers.
“The film festival competes for seven nominations, namely best film, best director, best actor, best actress, best visual, best music and best audience’s favourite film,” she said.
After closing submit, there were more that 180 works accumulated from12 January – 10 March 2022. The enthusiasm from participants were quite good, even most of them are from outside Bandung.
The assessment criteria set at the film festival include conformity to the theme, shooting techniques, music and sound, and the strength of the film’s story message. As for the photography olympiad, it is judged in terms of technical, aesthetic, idea, and originality.
“After the announcement of the winners, short films made by young filmmakers will be shown in front of the audience. We will print the photos that are included in the form of photobooks,” he said.
The journey which has been undergone by the department for 25 years was appreciated by the initiator and founder, Drs. H. Komar Hanafi. He said that Photography study program has become part of world culture.
“The changes are so rapid and significant. Digital advances have forced the Photography study program to switch to using modern equipment. However, we must still be familiar with the manual, for that a darkroom course is held as the basis for the development of photography, “he said.
He hoped that the Photography study program would be able to innovate in photography education. “There are a number of benchmarks that must be developed, namely quality, quantity, diversification, growth, efficiency, and system dynamics,” he added.
Dean of the department, Dr. Hj. Senny Suzanna Alwasilah, M.Pd are also belated of series of achievement obtained by the department. “Keep fighting for making the department more-forwarded, popular and echoed, not only within Unpas, but all around the world. Strengthen the relation between stakeholder. We wish it could be more shining and glorifying in the future,” she concluded. (Reta)*
