BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – Hello, Wargi Unpas! (lit. wargi means family, but in this context, it means all people associated to Unpas). How do feel to be a new college student? Are your ready to get your first class in 11 October 2021?
The transition from high school to college will certainly be different and need few adaptations. Even more, Covid-19 pandemic requires you to start your first official class online. Well, to make your study run much more effective and not discourage your spirit (even though it is still online), these are few tips you can apply to your study:
-
Understand the Online Learning Media which are Used
To support the online class, Unpas uses the learning media known as Learning Management System (LMS). The learning process are mostly carried out by using LMS, even there are teachers who take advantages of other platforms. No doubt, online class often makes it hard for students to understand the materials being explained. Therefore, teachers are required to present the materials as interesting as possible, variative and interactive as well, to make the students understand the contexts as a whole.
-
Check for the Class Schedule Carefully and Regularly
New students often feel enthusiastic when getting into their first class. There are more of them worrying about academic activities and will make them priority. Even it sounds simple, there are some of them who often miss/forget the class schedule because they do not check it carefully. Do not ignore it, because the teacher will record your attendance. The number of your attendance will greatly affect you score in the end of semester, you know.
-
Be Discipline Working on Assignments
Students are often associated to assignments. Since the first semester, make the discipline your habit, do not work on assignment near to the deadline, especially being the ‘deadliner’ students. Postponing on working on assignment will make it hard for you to arrange your time effectively and efficiently. At last, your assignment will remain undone and you will have 0 point on your score.
-
Watch for the Lecture’s Materials and Take Notes on the Important Ones
Watching for the lecture’s materials is not really enough, you also need to take notes of what teachers have explained, at least on the important ones. This is important, since students are now more familiar to ‘taking photos and screen-shots’ rather than taking notes.
-
Get to Know of Things that can be Your Distraction while Studying Online
Who is here, easily being distracted while studying online? You better notice things that can break your concentration, such as notification from your social media, habits of watching Korean drama all night long, playing games and many more. For those who use laptop or personal computer while studying online, please do your best to make a distance on your smartphone for a while in order not to be disturbed or tempted to browse on social media.
-
Find a Calm Spot for Studying
Studying at home will certainly give you different feeling and situation rather than in the class. It tends hard for students to concentrate. Therefore, find a calm and supporting spot for studying, for example, in your bedroom, or other places that are not too noisy or crowd.
-
Manage Your Time and Maintain Your Health
The last tip is not less important, that is to manage your time and maintain your health. Studying online forces students to see on the monitor all day long, less time to even stand up or move, more time to sit and often stay up all night doing homework. Do not force yourselves; maintain your eating habit and take your time to get some balanced rest.
Those are 7 tips of doing effective online study for new students. By the way, do not hesitate to be active during the class. Maintain your health, keep your spirit up, be successful! (Reta)*
