BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – As a form of optimizing online lectures, UNPAS Faculty of Teaching and Education continues to strive to improve the quality of distant lectures, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. One of its ways is to provide e-learning facility of Learning Management System (LMS) which makes it possible for both teachers and students to do a virtual lecture.
There are some features available at the LMS, including an identification of time and duration during lectures, teacher / students presence list, assignment scoring system, Mid-semester test and Final test.
Dr. H. Uus Toharudin, M.Pd, as the Dean of Faculty of Teaching and Education, stated that the course activity during LMS does not reduce the quality of learning, especially in conveying the course material from lectures.
“We still keep [our] service from the faculty, teacher and department to the student, therefore we also can still establish the e-Learning system of the faculty. Up until now, Alhamdulillah, there is no such problem,” said the Dean at Campus II Tamansari, Bandung, on Tuesday (March 23rd, 2021).
In addition, as an example of innovation of course method, the Faculty itself provide a mini studio as the lecturing facility from the teacher to student. The studio was built in order to make the lecture more interactive and interesting.
“We also build a mini studio, to help the teachers teach their course material. Therefore, it can be viewed in its entirety, such as when writing the material. This is one way to treat the longing of teacher’s presence at the class, as well as avoid the boredom,” he explained.
The Dean also added that the complete facilities at this mini studio provide easy access and use for lecturers. Therefore, the lecturers only need to prepare the teaching materials that will be given to students.
“We have already completed the facilities. Teachers only need to use it when it is needed easily and practically,” said the Dean.
The complete equipment available to support the online lecture consists of lighting tool, LCD, projector screen, microphone, audio mixer, computer device, camera and speaker.
Technical Team of the studio, Sandi Maulana said that there are two rooms of the studio at the Faculty which has been arranged before Covid-19 pandemic. It is specially seen on the method of Blended Learning of a learning method that combines the concept of conventional and modern teaching.
“It has had been used for Blended Learning before. Out of six departments at the Faculty, five of its courses become the model/ examples. First meeting is held online, second meeting is held offline, et cetera,” he said.
He also said that the studio has already been used before by the teachers, only for them to prepare the teaching material by recording video, not for them to broadcast it live.
“Actually, the studio design has existed before the Covid-19 pandemic. The idea came from the Dean himself, then it began to improve like this. We also continue to strive to optimize the mini studio facilities for current and future lectures,” he ended. (Rico B)*
