BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – Academic staffs (tenaga kependidikan, tendik) of Universitas Pasundan joined in Unpas Archery Club successfully won 1 gold medal, 2 silvers and 2 bronzes at the STKIP Pasundan Archery Open III National Championship in 15-17 July 2022.
Unpas sent off its 10 men athletes and 2 women athletes in the Barebow category 18m and Barebow Group Mix. Although they are fighting against athletes who already had better experience, Unpas athletes are able to confirm themselves as the winner and defeat around 120 participants.
A gold medalist of Barebow Group Mix category, Ecep Mumun, said that the key of his winning cannot be separated from his seriousness and persistence in running the training program, both privately and with the coach. In additional, he tried to perform relaxed and focused.
“Yesterday, the venue was in an indoor area, so it was very helpful because there was no need to worry about the influence of wind, weather, or lighting. But it is much more difficult because the arrow target is small,” he said on Thursday, 21 July 2022.
Focused and Concentrated
The 3rd place winner of Barebow Group Mix category, Nenna Mutiasara Rusanty stated that there were at least 4 basic techniques an athlete should be watching for, namely the stance (standing position), drawing (pulling the bow string), aiming (on target), release (pulling off the arrow.
“Besides paying attention to the basic techniques, what are most important thing during the competition are focus and concentration. Sometimes we feel suddenly nervous because things occur beyond our control. This can disturb our concentration and things we are still figuring out how to handle,” she said.
Nenna also added that it was the team’s own to-do-list. Later, Unpas Archery Club will do the exercises more intense, adjust focus and concentration, as well as add more physical exercises, such as push up to train the shoulder muscles.
“In the near future, we will be preparing for national championship in UGM or Sentul. The exercise should be more routine; we need to spare our time in the middle of our work,” she added.
Unpas Archery Club Opened for Students
Although it has just made a debut since early 2022, Unpas Archery Club began to be recognized and well-known among archery lovers. According to Ecep, the achievement is quite encouraging.
Not only for employees, Unpas Archery Club led by Vice Rector II Dr. Ir. Yudi Garnida, MP. now also open for students who have an interest in archery. There is no recruitment pattern or special criteria, anyone is allowed to join.
“Later, they will be trained, the important thing is to be interested in the sport first. If the basic technique can be done, the skill will definitely continue to improve. Don’t forget the intention to contribute, increase experiences to be mentally strong,” explained Ecep.
Members of Unpas Archery Club will willingly lend bows and arrows for students who are interested in doing archery but do not have equipment to do that. Currently, Unpas Archery Club is just practicing the Barebow type (simple bow).
“Doing barebow is both easy and hard, because it relies on feeling. But it does not exclude the possibility of us adding other types, such as National Standard, Compound Bow, and so on. The more that is pursued, the greater the chance of overall champion,” he continued.
Ecep and Nenna hope that many students are interested in joining the Unpas Archery Club and carrying the Unpas flag in various prestigious championships.
“We practice regularly every Saturday in the basement of Tamansari Campus. Students who want to join, can come directly during the training schedule. Hopefully we can soon have a training place with a proper field,” he hoped. (Reta)**
