BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – Student of Department of Bahasa and Indonesian Literature, Faculty of Teaching and Education (FKIP) Universitas Pasundan, Miftahul Jannah, representing West Java in Chess Sport at the National Paralympic Week XVI Papua on Saturday, 6 November 2021, begin to have a match.
Miftah is being up against Central Java representative, Annisa Wulandari in women’s TNB2/B3 classification. She will play 4 numbers of matches; single classic, single fast-and-steady, team’s classic and team’s fast-and-steady.
Depending on her intense practice during training camp, Miftah is sure to be beat the opponent by doing some tactics, speed and accuracy as well as use her time as optimal as possible.
Before going to Bumi Cendrawasih (lit. Indonesian term referred to Papua), Miftah also makes sure she was ready technically, physically and mentally. She targets for gold medal even though the possible opponents are quite strong, including the host athletes and Central Java.
Demisioner of Students’ Sports Coordinator (Koordinator Olahraga Mahasiswa, KOM), Devy Febriyanti Hidayat, accompanying Miftah at the event explained that the game system used at the event is by using point accumulation. The winner is determined based on the point collected from every round.
“The winner’s point depends on the number of rounds. Position in the standings will be updated continuously through the point collection system,” she explained.
Miftah is one of 13 chess athletes who were sent by West Java NPCI at Papua Peparnas XVI. Quoted from pikiran-rakyat.com, West Java chess team is targeting for 6 gold medals to be brought to Tanah Pasundan (lit. Indonesian term referred to West Java).
“I am optimistically able to bring the [gold] medal home. Although I have already prepared my best strategies and other aspects, I still need to be aware of the opponent’s strength,” said Miftah when being interviewed before her departing.
Miftah hopes she would be able to play calmly and performed her best, so she could collect the winning points.
“I hope I could play well at the event and contribute the medals to make West Java general champion [again],” she concluded. (Reta)*
