Unpas PKM Team Assisting to Developing Entrepreneurship and Competitiveness of Stuffed Milkfish Business in Kelurahan Cijerah

BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – Creating the entrepreneurial climate and building a competitiveness in the field of MSMEs are still the strategic concern and issues which need to be paid attention to. Even more, MSMEs plays an important role and contributes a lot in developing the economy in Indonesia, especially in rural areas. 

An effort of developing the MSMEs can be implemented through the Research Program of MBKM regulation (Program Penelitian Kebijakan MBKM) and Research-result-based Community Service (Pengabdian Masyarakat berbasis Hasil Penelitian) initiated by Kemendikbudristek.

One of the community service teams from Universitas Pasundan led by Dr. Yuce Sariningsih, M.Si take a full advantages of the grant-fund program to increase the entrepreneurship potential in Kelurahan Cijerah, Kecamatan Bandung Kulon, Bandung. 

The service carried out is ‘Pengembangan Kewirausahaan dan Daya Saing Usaha Bandeng Isi Kelurahan Cijerah, Kecamatan Bandung Kulon, Kota Bandung’ and located in Toko Kue Mae Sari owned by Rizki Rakhmadi. 

On the seminar held in The Jayakarta Suite Hotel and Resort, on Monday, 27 December 2021, he stated that the partner has originally sold market snacks, but the number of buyers decreased during the pandemic, so they switched to the production of stuffed milkfish.

“The milkfish that is produced is not quite attractive in terms of packaging, so there must be an increase in motivation to be able to develop it again. Plus, the quality of the production process also needs to be improved,” he said.

From the identification results, the management of financial record is also not consistent and systematic. In addition, the marketing of stuffed milkfish is still limited to privately owned shops and small outlets, even production is marginalized a little because business actors are busy selling market snacks.

To respond to those problems, he along with five other members have carried out several trainings, such as introducing sociopreneur, business management, business planning, production management and financial record. 

“We also hold a training for designing the product, training for business permission to obtain a Business-licensed Number (Nomor Induk Berusaha, NIB), Household Industry Food (Pangan Industri Rumah Tangga, PIRT), halal product, laboratory test and nutrition pack,” he added.

These aspects are expected to be able to fulfil the target to improve entrepreneurial and managerial motivation, improve skills of recording a bankable record and develop the time-settings in order to produce both products: stuffed milkfish and market snacks/foods. 

“Since they have not marketed the products online yet, we introduce them a web-based marketing system. We also made them the website and social media. As everything go smoothly, we also carried out a training for production management to create a more qualified and hygienic stuffed milkfish,” he explained. 

Apart from that, Unpas PKM team also provide assistance in a form of tools/equipment for producing the fish in order not to make it blended with daily household stuffs. One of the tools is vacuum sealer.

“We supervised and gave the entrepreneurs a tutorial to use vacuum sealer so the stuffed fish produce could be more durable and hygienic, as well as provide them training about how to solve the problem during the process of current change on the material or products,” he concluded. (Reta)*
