BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – The Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2022 exhibits a lot of automotive products. Not only new cars or bikes, the 2022 GIIAS also becomes a forum from small-scale automotive business to attract more consumers.
One of the products is MAF Sidecar owned by Muhammad Alwy Fakhrudin, class-of-2019 student of Department of Mechanical Engineering Universitas Pasundan. If a sidecar is always made rigid and its motor cannot do free manoeuvre, the thing does not happen in this kind of sidecar made by Alwy.
The sidecar he created for the Automatic Vespa can still turn right and left following the contours of the road because of the bearing in the lower frame.
The idea of making an automatic Vespa sidecar began when lectures were switched online due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He idly modifies his Vespa Sprint and is now starting to seriously work on orders for automatic Vespas that come.
Plug n Play and Recyclable
Alwy explained that the instalment of this sidecar made by MAF Sidecar is Plug n Play (PnP). Using a bolt system, the sidecar is made without compromising the Vespa body, so there is no need for drilling or welding.
“This sidecar has a bolt system, so it is Plug and Play. It is just a matter of removing the side standard so that it can be used as a sidecar frame holder,” he said on Thursday, 18 August 2022.
Its body is made of iron plate because it is considered stronger and if it is not used, it can be used for other purposes or can be recycled.
“Generally, sidecars use fibre which can later become waste. If we use iron, it is stronger and can be recycled. The thickness is strong enough to be used on the road, it will not bend,” he said.
He’s done a lot of testing. Overall, development was carried out over two years to maximize the performance of the sidecar, suspension, and the shape of the sidecar itself.
Price
Currently, MAF Sidecar is accepting orders for several types of Vespa such as the LC, Sprint, and Primavera. He said that only the Vespa GTS could not be fitted with a sidecar. In the future, it is possible that he will receive orders from other brand scooters.
The sidecar he has developed is equipped with suspension and is claimed to be able to carry passengers with a maximum capacity of 100 kg for adults.
Alwy also said that the making of one unit of sidecar takes about a month depending on the queue. Regarding the price, at the 2022 GIIAS event, MAF Sidecar set a price of IDR 30 million from the normal price of IDR 35 million.
“Currently we only produce one model. MAF Sidecar will continue to develop other models. If there are special requests or orders from consumers, additional accessories will also be served,” he concluded. (Reta)**
