BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – For the first time, Indonesia is trusted and given honour to hold a carry out the mandate as the Group of 20 (G20) Presidency which will take place from 1 December 2021 to 30 November 2022.
The G20 is an international forum that focuses on policy coordination in the economic and development fields. As the administrator of the G20 Presidency, Indonesia plays a role in determining priority agendas and leading a series of G20 meetings.
This event is used by Indonesia as a forum as well as an event to show Indonesia’s position in leading a global forum that aims to overcome various challenges and world issues.
What is the impact of the G20 Presidency on the progress of the Indonesian Economy?
Teacher of Department of International Relations and Vice Dean I of FISIP Universitas Pasundan Dr. Kunkunrat, M.Si. said that G20 Presidency has shown good perception of Indonesian economic resilience towards crisis during Covid-19 pandemic.
The G20 event can bring pride of Indonesia internationally and become reference the implementation of international event. Even more, Indonesia is the one and only member of G20 of Southeast Asian countries and representative of developed countries.
“This trust is a form of recognition of Indonesian’s status. At least, we have our optimism since Indonesia is considered to be having proper ability in overcoming and recovering from Covid-19,” he said on Friday, 12 August 2022.
The Covid-19 post-pandemic recovery of economy and health was proven by statistic data of economic growth. Although it was once stonk, even in minus level in the beginning of pandemic, it grows stable at 5,2 percent.
In the list of purchasing power parity between members of G20, Indonesia is ranked 10th and recognized internationally as new established emerging market with GDP over than USD 1 trillion.
“This is what makes President Jokowi have his own confidence. When other country collapsed and went bankrupt with the situation, Indonesia is indeed having its own rapid economic growth. This achievement is also what makes the President being convinced to go to Russia,” he continued.
He also stated that G20 Presidency can be used carefully as diplomacy for enforcing Indonesia’s pride, especially in ASEAN, as like as when Soekarno led the country through Asia-Africa Conference and Soeharto, as mediator for Cambodian conflict.
Indonesia can lead the event of G20 Presidency in order to make positive impact on the recovery of economic activity, social and political establishment
“Right now, G20 Presidency is being tested and reviewed. If it worked, then in 2050, there would be another world,” he joked. (Reta)**
