BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – Coinciding with the commemoration of Sumpah Pemuda (Youth Pledge, Student Activity Unit for Nature Conservation (Unit Kegiatan Mahaiswa Pecinta Kelestarian Alam, UKM Mapak Alam) Universitas Pasundan celebrated its 42nd anniversary. Until now, the unit founded on 28 October 1979 in Linggarjati, Kuningan, has consistently demonstrated its existence.
Mapak Alam does not only focus on the open-nature activity, but also train its members to understand the basics of organization and build their own social spirit. Members of Mapak Alam are led to be a more humane person, uphold the educational value, be thoughtful and careful in observing, utilizing and conserving nature to be utilized as needed.
Getting into the age of 40, Head of Mapak Alam 2021/2022, Habib Aulia Rahman hoped that the unit could keep going on and being still outstanding in the field of nature conservation and not ignore the close kinship that has been built.
“The last pillar of Mapak Alam which is still standing is the kinship being taken care of by its members,” he said, on Thursday, 28 October 2021.
As a kinship-and-humanity-based organization, Mapak Alam wants to keep creating people who are aware on the environment; restoring their position and dignity as students who loves nature conservation.
Mentioned about the difference of anniversary in normal and pandemic condition, Habib said there was not significant difference. Even though the attendance of the members has decreased a lot, the celebrations are still carried out solemnly.
Although it is in the midst of the pandemic which makes the open-nature activity postponed for a while, Mapak Alam still arranges its work program to encourage the productivity.
“We still carry on the work program, such as tutoring, members’ trial, members’ coaching, anniversary and Basic Training (Pendidikan Dasar Mapak Alam,” he continued.
Even more, Mapak Alam still also carries out its main program: the youth camp, which bring the theme of open-nature school camp. The program is targeted to millennial generation in order to introduce them about the living environment and nature conservation.
“In addition, there would be cross-generation mountain climbing activity of Mapak Alam to strengthen the relationship between members,” he added.
In order to maintain the sense of kinship that has been built for 42 years, Mapak Alam always emphasize to its members to maintain friendship with each generation.
“If the sense of kinship fades away, Mapak Alam cannot do anything. The last pillar of Mapak Alam is family,” he said.
Vice Rector III for Student Affairs Dr. H. Deden Ramdan, M.Si, as the coach, also congratulated Mapak Alam on getting older.
“Dirgahayu (lit. happy birthday), Mapak Alam. Good luck salawasna (lit. forever). Bara Jiwa Tegar (lit. strong spirit),” he concluded. (Reta)*
