Whoever grabs the chance fastest is the winner. This is the best strategy which must be applied in the Era of Disruption, marked by the number of 4.0 to 5.0.
The idiom was addressed by Rector of UNPAS, Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Eddy Jusup Sp., M.Si., M.Kom, when giving speech at the event held by Faculty of Social and Political Science UNPAS, regarding to the teachers resource improvement. The event entitled “Produktivitas dan Profesionalisme Dosen di Era 4.0 menuju 5.0” (Teachers’ Productivity and Professionalism at the Era of 4.0: moving forward to 5.0) was held on Saturday, February 1st, 2020, at Prama Hotel, Bandung. After giving his speech, Prof. Eddy opened the event officially.
Rector of UNPAS also mentioned about the characteristics of Disruption Era 4.0, regarding the literacy of data and technology, while the other one, the Disruption Era 5.0 is marked by humane literacy. He said that if data literacy and technology literacy are not well organized by humane literacy, it could be probably dangerous for all human being. As for example, if there were a change for people to create a car without its driver, the car would be probably used by people to do crime. Therefore, Prof. Eddy positively accepted the idea of training activities held by the Faculty. “A teacher must be professional. He/ she needs to have various skills: both pedagogically and psychologically, because a teacher needs to transfer knowledge with humane touch as possible as they can,”
Teachers’ duty and their ambition is to be a professor. “Do not want to be a person (teacher) only in structural position. It only could be a bonus for us.”
UNPAS opens up motivation as high as possible in order to make teachers could accelerate academic functional position. It you just became an assistant, go as fast as you can become an associate professor. And for those who already became an associate professor, go immediately to the next level, until finally you become a professor. Right now, the regulation has already changed and been different from the previous years. To reach the position of associate professor, it is sufficient to be handled by the Higher Education Service Institution (Lembaga Layanan Dikti) and to be a professor, it must be administered to the Ministry.
Those who have already been a Head of associate professor should better administer several requirements to be a professor. UNPAS will facilitate this kind of requirements, including article publication. It is important for teacher to publish their work and article, regarding new regulation that Doctoral graduates need to publish their article and work in an accredited journal.
Graduates who had 3.75 of GPA would be announced as cum laude. Right now, when the regulation change, those who have 4.00 of GPA would not be announced as cum laude if they have not published their article in an accredited journal.
Prof. Eddy Jusup also stated that each person needs to spend their own budget to publish their scientific articles/ papers. Right now, UNPAS provides sum of money for expertise funds, in order to make it easier for teachers to publish their work.
In other parts of his speech, Prof. Eddy Jusuf also mentioned about teachers’ other duties: to improve their productivity, both in writing article and serving community. These apply to the professor as well. He gave an example, recently 48 professors under Higher Education Service Institution (Lembaga Layanan Dikti) Jabar-Banten has carried out a community service, by providing guidance to local tertiary institutions.
Related to the digital campus program, UNPAS would also keep moving forward to it: despite of its huge amount of money, for approximately 87 billion rupiahs. However, for short-term goals, UNPAS would improve digital classroom first. “FISIP has already developed it. I am truly proud of it,” said Prof. Eddy.
On his speech, Dean of the Faculty, Dr. H.M. Budiana, M.Si stated that to improve students’ learning center, Kampus I has already been provided by eight digital classrooms, where they are also provided with SMART TV to help teachers giving their course materials. “It has been gradually built and improved”.
The Dean also stated that there are bigger challenges in the Era of Disruption. Therefore, every teacher could be able to improve their skills. He said that about 20 teachers have already attended a distant-teaching program. And there is also recruitment of new teacher in several departments.
FISIP always improves the quality of its teaching staffs, both for permanent and non-permanent teacher. Budiana also said that, “This training is to overview their quality.”
Vice Dean of the Faculty, Drs. Kun Kunrat, M.Si, as for Head of Committee, said that there are 57 teachers attending the event, 6 of them were absent and 19 could not be able to attend.
“The event is the continuation of FISIP strategic plan held few times ago. This month would be continued to a department meeting,” said Kun Kunrat.
Some professor of FISIP also attended the event. Few of them gave their material, including Prof. Dr. Rusadi Kantaprawira (professor of FISIP), Aminatun, S.Sos., M.Si. (Higher Education Service Institution) and Dr. Engkos Ahmad Kuncoro, SE, MM. The event was hosted by three teachers of FISIP: Dr. Lia Muliawati, M.Si., Dra. Hj. Yulia Segarwati, M.Si. and Dr. Ade Priangani, M.Si.
Also on that occasion, Heads of Department are handed a souvenir regarding their duty completion.*** (TS)
